Eva Mendes Covers Allure Magazine August 2010

A Healthy Bite: Eva Mendes

"If a negative thought pops into my head, I talk to the voice within me and say, 'I know you want to tell me that I'm less than desirable, but not now. You can come back in a couple days and cut me down when I'm done with this shoot. I promise to let you in then' . . . I have worked very hard to love myself, and I do. I think that's what people may respond to with me."

— Eva Mendes talks about staying confident among "a ton of beautiful girls in this business with beautiful bodies." The actress is the cover girl for the August issue of Allure, which hits newsstands on July 20.

it's so sad that some of the most beautiful women in hollywood constantly have to remind themselves that they are beautiful. If Eva Mendes struggles to feel beautiful, I don't think that makes it much easier for the rest of us.

i agree that the comment sounds strange, but i have that same negative voice which, despite all i've overcome in terms of self-esteem, i still listen to. it helps me keep things in perspective and to understand that not matter how beautiful, amazing, funny etc i learn to appreciate myself as, i am no less fallible, i have negative qualities and other people exist who are just the same. if that negative voice served no purpose, it wouldn't exist to begin with; but you have to listen and reason with it instead of outright ignoring it

This quote is weird to me. Why does she "promise" to let the negative voice in at all? If she works hard to love herself, then I wouldn't think she'd want to promise to listen to a negative voice ever.
