I bet you can think of many reasons why you should exercise, but some days, well, you just don't feel like it. Nobody is in the mood to work out every time we're supposed to, because it's hard work. It requires effort to gather up your gear and head to the gym. If you're not feeling very motivated, it's easy to be lazy on the couch and skip out on the workout.

On days when you're not 100 percent into exercise, just go anyway. Nine times out of 10, within five minutes of working out you'll be proud that you gave yourself the push. I'm not saying you need to do an intense 45-minute sprint and an hour of strength training. Be a little flexible and choose workouts that are easier on days that you have less energy. Go for a walk instead of a run. Go to a relaxing yoga class instead of cardio kickboxing. Or just do your normal workout but shorten it.

Most of the time, the biggest challenge is making the decision to work out, so don't even give yourself the opportunity to talk yourself out of it. Just go, get it done, and afterward, you know you'll be happy you did.

I'm in the minority here. I love to exercise (I get the exercise high, and I loooove that). I look forward to working-out every time. I get cranky (read: exercise withdrawal) when I don't get to workout. :)

I skipped my workout yesterday and felt so sluggish and out of it all day. I need to remember that feeling, maybe it will motivate me next time! I remember reading a comment on this site a while ago "You never regret working out." I try to remember that when I'm feeling particularly lazy.

Ugh, this was me this morning. I totally skipped my workout today for absolutely no good reason other than that I just didn't feel like it. Normally, I get my behind out of bed, change, and start working out and I immediately start feeling better. And if I don't really feel like working out hardcore, I just do an "easy" version of my normal workout. I always end up feeling better afterward.

This has me written all over it. I have the hardest time motivating myself sometimes but like you said, you feel better when you get to the gym. After you feel accomplished even though you didn't want to do it in the first place. I might mumble and grumble but in the end I'm happier because I went. :D

I'm very unmotivated when the alarm goes off at 5:50...but I know if I can just drag myself out of bed, change, and hit play on the DVD player, I will feel so much better!

So true! For me, changing in to my exercise clothes is the worst part about working out. I'm always so cold, I don't want to take off my clothes! lol. I have the same problem getting dressed in the morning.

I have to admit that I like routine and schedule. I get used to wake up at 4:30 and head to the gym/outdoor run everyday at 5:30am now.

Same here runningesq. There are days where I am literally muttering the whole way out the door and to the gym, but otherwise I'd just feel guilty that I didn't go and let my laziness get the better of me.

exactly! People sometimes tell me that they wish they were as "moviated" as I am.. it's not (always) movitation.. sometimes I just know what I have to do and do it. It's not like I'm skipping to the pool at 5:30 am excited to get in cold water!
