Fit Tip: Don't Let a Week of Missed Workouts Turn Into a Habit

Fit Tip: Don't Let a Week of Missed Workouts Turn Into a Habit

Everyone needs a break from their exercise routine. I'm a big fan of taking a day or even a week off if I have too many appointments, go on vacation, get sick, or just don't have time. Sometimes life doesn't allow for a trip to the gym, and it can be beneficial to give your body and mind a little rest. You've got to be careful not to let your little break turn into a habit though. If you've noticed that it's been longer than two weeks since you slipped on your sneaks and sports bra then make a pact with yourself and pick a day to work out ASAP. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get back into your regular routine.

i always feel like i'm a big slacker if i take more htan a day off - i feel like i need to go at least 1x per day - if not more than that. i didn't go to the gym yesterday and i really felt it because i kind of feel like i get to be a bit depressed when i'm not working out my stress at the gym. i went today -but i didn't have the full energy that i typically have to have a good workout. i really let myself down....

For the first time in the nine years I've been going to the gym, I am falling victim to this missed workouts habit. I'm teaching at a new school this year that's about a half an hour commute as opposed to the five minute commute I was blessed with last year. I also have way more students, and they're way more high maintenance and I find myself physically and mentally exhausted at the end of the day. So getting home later + being tired = skipped workouts. It's kind of snowballed the last month or so the point where I'm rarely there! I went to pilates tonight and I'm going to force myself a few more times this week to get back on track.

I always procrastinate and decide tomorrow is a better day to start and then it turns to another day...but once i decide and make it a routine if I miss them I feel guilty so I do sumthing else for my activity

It will be 2 weeks this Friday. Yikes! I skipped a work out when my mom came into town and then exams started popping. I'll definitely be going to the gym tomorrow after work.

omg! truer words have never been spoken.. lol. there are days that i don't want to work out - but then i think of how one day can turn to two and then three and then how hard it becomes to get back on a workout mode... so i say forget it - change clothes and go..

I shoot for 5 cardio workouts a week. My elliptical broke and I was without one for a week and a half. Suprisingly, it wasn't hard to get back into the swing of things at 5:30 this morning! :)

I haven't been able to really workout for a month and a half due to an injury and it is killing me!! I find exercising to be so therapeutic. And its really going suck when I get back into my normal routine and have to be all tired and sore... eeew.

I hate when I change up my workout and I'm sore all week long. I can barely do cardio.

Oh, I so needed this. I took a week off when my grandmother was in town, and it has turned into 2. I need to get moving again!

i really hate missing a workout, but i've had to skip the gym this past week bc i'm sick. :( every time i get sick i try to work out and i end up getting worse so this time i'm going to take it easy. i'm really excited to get over this sickness and get back to the gym!

Thanks! Your gentle reminder pushed me out the door, and I ended up running 4 miles! (Well, after a week of not exercising, it was a run/walk, but still) =)

Too late. Now I have to rebuild my workouts, my stamina and my compulsive addiction to exercise. But it's so hard not to procrastinate.

I freak when I have to miss a workout. I workout 5-6 days a week and I'm afraid that missing a workout will turn into a habit. I'm going to a conference for 5 days this week and I'm nervous that I'll lose my motivation when I get back!!

i did this. first i would say to myself "na i'll go tomorrow" tomorrow turned into 2 days in a row, then three...then...3 months...this past month i've gone everyday except for the past 4 days cause I recently got hired some place, but the gym is down the street so I'll be spending my lunch there.

I find that weekends are the best time for working out. A great exercise filled weekend always start new weeks off right.

I fall prey to this all the time! It's so hard to get back on track when you've fallen off the wagon, so to speak. I should keep this bookmarked as a constant reminder!

This is so true. I used to do this all the time a couple years ago and it's hard to get back into it if you take too much time off. Now I might give myself 2 days, but generally no more than that.

Truthfully, I'm dedicated to my exercise habit. I love exercising, and it's results. I only take a "break" from it about twice year when I go out of town for the holidays. My "break" is working-out 2 - 3 times a week, instead of 4. At the most, I've gone about three days without exercising. As far as I'm concerned, you're preaching to the choir. ;)

I am so afraid of a missed workout turning into MORE missed workouts. So I schedule my days off for days when I know I'm going to be super busy or whatever. It helps keep me on track because I look forward to the break but I know I'll be back on track the next day.
