Fit Tip: Schedule a Fitness Date So You Can't Skip Out

I'm a fan of early morning workouts because they make the rest of my day better. The problem is, once your alarm goes off, it's so easy to roll over, hit the snooze button, and skip out. You wouldn't be able to sleep in if you knew someone was counting on you to show up though, right?

So whatever time you like to workout, schedule a fitness date either with a friend, fellow runner, or a trainer. Knowing he or she will be there waiting and ready to go will make it impossible for you to miss it.

I wish I had a workout partner! However, I have found that putting on my gym clothes first thing in the morning, and then getting in my car is the best thing for me to do. If I wait until I am done with work or whatever, I would absolutely never go. I make it the first thing I do, and if I skip it, I feel guilty. So I'd rather enjoy time at the gym, catching a few words they say on the TV and burn cals to lose some weight than just sleep in.

I am very lucky here, I go to YMCA for workout and most of the people who go there are living within 3 miles from the YMCA. I have a good workout partner - I met her in the master swim team. We are about the same age, our speed is about the same. And then we both started to run 1/2 marathon, full marathon, spin class and body pump. I exercise with her everyday now and we do our long run together on Saturday morning. BTW, her kids are about the same age as mine. Both of our husbands are not into exercise :(. But we managed to go for trips together all the time as her kids can play with my kids. My husband keep her husband company while both of us work out. :)

None of my friends really like working out as much as I do, so when I suggest doing something like biking or walking or going for a run, I get a barrage of excuses from them. I make fitness dates with myself, though. I schedule in my workouts so they're part of my day. That way, I don't worry about finding time to squeeze a workout in.

Just don't do it with a housemate. At uni, I made gym dates with my friend who lived across the hall, and we would both lie in, thinking "oh, I'll just get up when she knocks on my door". We never got anything done, until we roped in a friend from down the road. Trust me, it works much better when someone has walked/travelled all the way to be with you... you just can't ignore the doorbell then!

Most of my friends want o meet for dinner - I ALWAYS try to make it a walk or a run or a class at the gym! (not always very successful, but I try!)

I don't live near any of my friends who share common fitness goals, but we have a text message tree. Seeing that blinky light go off at 5:00 every morning reminds me that someone else is exercising. We usually check on each other later in the day to see who followed through.
