Fitness Poll: How Many Days a Week Do You Exercise?

How Many Days a Week Do You Exercise?

I want to get a little more specific about your fitness plan. Last week I asked if you exercise according to the guidelines created by the American College of Sports Medicine.

Now I want to know . . .

everyday i try to do something - usually i work out for a decent time at the gym 5-6 days a week and then on the day off (usually sunday) i'll either throw a frisbee - go to the dog park and run around or do something else.

I keep meaning to do 6 days a week, but it usually ends up being 5: 3 days of running and Pilates, 1 day cardio/weights, 1 day weights. If I'm able to get in a 6th day it's usually a 45 or 60-minute Pilates session.

Levi- You should keep in mind that people who answer this quiz are most likely avid fitness buffs themselves. I mean why else would they be on this website? I consider myself pretty active too, so I was surprised when I find that most of these comments exceed my fitness level completely! I work out about 5 days a week. I do about 40 min of cardio 3 days a week and an hour-hour fifteen once or twice a week. I also intermingle strength and yoga in my routine. But I do like to do something active everyday. Even if it means just climbing the stairs at work instead of taking the elevator. :)

I usually do 5 sessions a week... but a few days ago I bruised my toenail due to painful new tennis shoes (that apparently didn't fit). So, I haven't been in a few days. I'll see if my poor toe is up to it tomorrow!

I think it's so great that everyone in the comments here manages to move around be it cardio outside, the gym or at home (yes sweeping and scrubbing count).

I've moved back to A.M. workouts. I work out before work every day, so 5 days of solid, scheduled workouts. Cardio - Walk/Jog Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Arms, Abs & Cardio on Tuesday Legs, Abs & Cardio on Thursday. Right now I'm at about 40-45 min a day Occasionally I'll fit a swim in there either on Friday evening or weekends, and I'm still active even when I'm not working out. My project site is 26 acres and I walk around that thing all day at LEAST once a week. I park my car about .5-.75 miles from my office, so there and back is a little extra & I garden, clean, etc all the time. I am uber impressed as well by those that are more active. I wish I had more time!

holy moses, 5 days a week?? my schedule only permits time for mwf workouts :( sometimes i can't wait to work so i can just run to the gym afterwards. i run the mile to the gym, run an extra mile or two on the treadmill and then do strength training. ...and then i have to walk back to my apartment :( that's the only sucky part, especially if i've been working out my lower body.

my goal is about 4-5 days a week. due to my current schedule i do at least two strength a week (55 minutes), 1-2 spinning (45 minutes) and 1 cardio class (55 minutes). i also try to throw in yoga or pilates once a week. what ends up happening is once or twice a week i double up on a class. one experiment in terror was last weekend i did cardio kickboxing followed by spinning. really kicked by toosh.

at least 5 days a week, two 60min strength training days, 2 running days and sometimes another day of elliptical. I'm pretty consistent we've been doing this schedule for a few months now and I've lost 20 lbs so it's working!!!

I do 10 hours of Ashtanga yoga a week (5x 2hr sessions). I'm a yoga teacher trainee, and its compulsory as part of my training. I also work in a gym as an instructor, so my work is pretty active, what with teaching people exercises, how to use machines and putting weights/balls away.

I try to work out every day but something usually comes up over the weekend and I end up skipping out a day or two. It's just nice to have a break sometimes!

I've been using my new elliptical machine about 4 days a week, I'd say...and I try to get to yoga class once a week.

I used to work out every day, but it was getting to be excessive, so now I make sure to schedule a day off once a week. Sometimes I do a light workout on my "off day", but I try to take it easy so my muscles recover. On my "on days", I definitely give it my all...I usually do a good 1-2 hours of cardio and also some weights on 2-3 days out of the week.

I voted in this poll this morning, and I must admit am flabergasted by the results. . . I have always been considered by friends, family, and strangers alike to be very "hardcore" when it comes it exercise/fitness. But according to your poll i am in the bottom 25% of your readers. . . could this really be?? I cast my answer as 4 days a week although a qualifed it that my goal is 4-6. I don't know, I have a pretty full life and I work full time. I find it amazing that so many of you guys work out 6 and 7 days a week. . . Now when I work out I usually do 1 hour - 1 1/2 hours of cardio, and if it's a long run it can be 2 hours or more. . . I am just wondering are you guys talking an hour a day?

I workout 6 days per week. Sometimes it's 5 if I really exhaust myself. Cardio all of those days and weightlifting 3-4 of them. I stretch every day. I'm like a lot of women who already posted in that I have to mix it up or I'll get bored. I try and do something different everyday and push myself harder each time.

i do mostly cardio, 5 days a week. this past track season i did the usual distance track workouts, but on my own i like to do long distance runs, the shortest of which are 3.5 miles (i do them hard with hills). lately i've been working on one bike ride a week too. then one day a week i do a serious strength circuit. on the last day, i do something active, like a horseback ride, a hike, or pilates, but i don't really count that into my work-out.

i go 5 days a week, for 90 minute sessions. that helped me knock off 40 pounds last yr. so it is great motivation for me!

On average 3-4. But some days it's just a 2 mile run. I don't usually work out longer than a little over an hour though. Yesterday I did a 45 min aerobics, biked 2.6 miles to work, biked 2.6 miles home, then jogged 2+ miles. I was pretty proud of myself.

Average about 4 days a week. Mon - Wednesday - 30 mins cardio and then I weight train. On Wednesdays I take two classes, Total Body and African Dance. Weekends I work out at home.

I walk approx. 3 miles everyday, (round trip to work). But I work way to much to have time to spend hours in a gym! I live in NYC and walk pretty much everywhere, and I try to get more vigorous exercise a few days a week, but sometimes it just doesn't happen! I really have no idea how you would spend more than an hour in the gym everyday and still have time to work full time and have a life outside of that!

You missed one important option . . . "Everyday, I TRY TO do something fitness related." That is what I would have voted for.

I try to get out at least 3 times a week. Usually walking or playing sports. I realllllly want to get into Yoga though and hope that I'll like it enough to do daily!
