Fitness Poll: Is Your Dog Your Exercise Buddy?

Is Your Dog Your Exercise Buddy?

I love my dog, not only for the attention and affection she gives me unconditionally, but because she's an awesome running buddy. I like to run with her at least twice a week. Not only does she seem to love it (which inspires me to love it too), but I appreciate that she helps me keep an even pace. She also gets me to run a little faster, especially up hills.

So I was wondering . . .

I have a boston terrier and she loves to go on runs with me. Shes a great motivator because she never seems to get tired.

I wish I had a dog. I'd definitely go running with my dog if I had one.

Owning a dog is truly one of the best ways to incorporate walking/cardio into my exercise routine. Our Wheaten requires lots of exercise so we walk at least an hour each day. I haven't hopped on the treadmill since we got her! It's much more enjoyable being outside (even when it's cold!). She doesn't mind the rain either so for us it's rain or shine!

I've got two Siamese cats. They encourage laziness and aren't big fans of exercise, because it means I deprive them of their nice warm oversize cat bed early in the morning!

My lazy Bassett Hound won't even go for walks!

My dog is too little too! She's a Pomeranian. When I first got her, she could barely walk a quarter of a mile before she was jumping all over me to pick her up. She did that for a couple years. Now she's 8 years old, and she gets tired very easily. I think I'll go take her for a long walk now that I read this post. :) Thanks!

My doggie is just not so good on the leash. She will run if there is a cat or squirrel involved, but other than those animals smaller than herself, she def. prefers to walk!

My dog's still a little too hyperactive and into everything to take her running. She'd be likely to try to run in the opposite direction if she saw a squirrel and would stop to say hello to anyone we passed. I do wish I could take her though....

Not only do we take our dog with us on walks--we bought a stroller for our cat so he can get some sunshine and fresh air too. It's a family affair as far as we're concerned, and when we don't have the motivation to get out there for ourselves, we do it for the pets!

My dog is the best workout buddy I've ever had. Even if I'm feeling lazy and don't want to get up and move, I HAVE to take him out for at least a half hour a day. We live in an apartment and he doesn't have a yard to run around in, so it would be mean not to take him out. He's always so energetic and excited to be out that you'd have to be made of stone for that not to rub off on you.

My dog's a lab/Rottie mix and she used to run with me a lot, but now she's almost 10 and she's sort of slow. She'll run with me for about a mile, then she's done. So I usually walk with her and she gets her exercise that way.

My dog LOVES to run with us! He knows that a run is coming the second I pick up my shorts and tshirt! By the time I get my shoes on, he's spinning around in circles, telling me to hurry up!

I don't have a dog now but when I lived at home I'd go for runs with my dog all the time. I had to run with her on a leash so it was a little hard but still really fun. She was very cute to watch and made the time fly by.

I have a little dog too but he still loves to run. He's a 12lbd doxie mix and will go for a few miles with me. We don't run anymore because it gets too hot to run outside with him now (it's gonna be 100deg today), but during the winter he loves to go with me!

I have a male australian shepherd who is definately my #1 training partner. He is always ready to go, rain or shine and he absolutely lives to run. He also is good for interval training because sometimes his pace is a tad eratic; like when he spots a squirrel We just ran 4 this morning.

I don't have a dog. :-( BUT, I do take my friends German Shepard and/or Husky out once in a while. They're wild. But it's always a good time.

My dog goes berserk every time I put on my running shoes. He's an Australian Shepherd and has inexhaustible energy -- we can do 4 to 5 miles in the morning, and he's ready to go again 2 hours later! And he's dragging me along the whole time... haha.
