I've tried a few of them (TRX was the hardest!), and I think a few of them are here to stay depending on how much results they can actually produce. I just tried Krav Maga, this self-defense fitness class that mixes in street fighting techniques with cardio, and wrote a feature about it. Maybe a fad? Check it out and see if it's a class that would interest you: http://www.greatist.com/fitness/krav-maga/

I don't think that's a good predictor - otherwise weight lifting would be a "fad" because it involves almost all extra special equipment!

100% fads. If someone has to pay money for extra special equipment you know it isn't going to last.
