I recently discovered a motivation tip that works for me, so I thought I'd share...

Last week, I went to the gym 5 days in a row. I was thrilled with myself because this is the longest streak, of consistently going to the gym, that I have had in a long time (usually I go every other day). Being that I am super competitive (even with myself), this week I am trying to match (or beat) my streak by going to the gym 5 days in a row again or maybe even six. I've already decided that if I can make it a whole month of going to the gym 5 days in a row, momma gets a new pair of shoes.

That's great idea. I was so proud of myself not too long ago when I did four days in a row! I want to try to go at least 4-6 days a week. Hopefully this tip will help.

I have a little flip calender on my desk at work - every workout day gets a little red circle around it. Seeing as we're on the last day of August just had a look - out of 31 days I've worked out 26 of those days :D

This is a great idea, congrats on the streak! I have been using a group I started here, The Fitness Challenge Group, to keep me motivated to keep my workouts going since we blog out our workout logs. I think I'm going to tie in a nice reward though like what you did if I start hitting my goals, and I LOVE that it's totally not food related, like the other comment made.

I put a sparkly smile sticker on my calendar for every day I work out. I thought it would not work at the beginning, but now I get depressed if I see more than a few days without a smile. I also think about if there isn't, what kept me from the gym?

I like that! I especially like that the reward isn't something contingent on a weight loss goal or on the outcome of working out, and the reward is a splurge that has nothing to do with the body stuff... I think I'll be trying this, because I've been reprogramming over the last few years to just think of going to the gym or running as a part of my lifestyle, and to think of it as something that is good for me or makes me stronger, rather than tied in somehow to getting into a smaller size pants. I've had friends who did the diet thing to lose weight and rewarded themselves with food when they hit a goal, and that has always freaked me out (counterproductive?)... I've been trying to commit to 30 min a day, no matter what it is or what is going on, because once I'm there I'm good to go. Good luck with this, and I think I'll be trying it out as well...
