Have You Participated in a Road Race?

Training for a race, walk or fun run is a great way to stay motivated and workout. The race is like a big test and all that training is your homework. Some people are race fanatics while others avoid them completely. I am wondering about you -

I used to hate running too, but after getting used to it, it's not so bad! I'm training for the half-marathon now (I'm bypassing the 5k) and hopefully, will be able to give the full marathon a shot in a few years!

I hate running. The only way I'll run is if someone is chasing me with a knife.

I have run a few 5Ks and half marathons. I also ran the Marine Corps Marathon in DC last October. In training for another half this October. I never ran before last May, when I started training for the marathon and raising money to fight HIV/AIDS. If I can do it, anyone can!

There should be a category for "Not yet, but I'm training for it." Because that's definitely the category I'm in.

Good luck to musefromnowhere, lintacious & rigatoni !!! I like to run, signing up for a race helps to keep me motivated & my goal is to finish smiling. I'm running in a 1/2 marathon in December.

Good luck lintacious! The feeling of finishing your first race is so worth the training. I'd been doing 5ks for a while and in April finished my first 10k. I agree that running a 10k feels so much better than a 5 because you actually REALLY feel it. But I still run 5ks to keep p.r.-ing. Next in line? a triathlon!

I used to love to run. My husband and I would run 5k's all the time. But I now have problems with my feet and he has bad knees from playing basketball. I miss running.

it would be fun to participate and see if i could finish one, but my knees won't let me. i've done some biking races, but i wasn't in them to win. they are super fun, and usually start in the middle of the night. : )

Since I don't run for my college, road races are my everything! 5k, 10k, 5 mile, 10 name it! I'm currently training for a marathon, too!

I can't run - I have weak ankles and terrible feet that make just walking on a daily basis a bit difficult at times. HOWEVER. I used to be a teacher, and my best friend is still a teacher, so we used to do the schools' annual fun runs and such together. That led to doing some other 5K walk/runs, and then last year, we signed up for the MS Challenge Walk. THAT was inspiring and tremendously difficult. We trained the same way you would for a marathon, only we did it walking. The event itself is a 2-day, 50K walk from Annapolis to Baltimore, MD (plus there was a $1500 minimum fund-raising goal per person in order to participate). It was hell. And yet, I'm so, so proud of the fact that I did it, and together, we raised almost $5000 to fight MS.

I've ran many 5ks and LOVE them because they are short and fun..they are over quick enough to still be fun. I think a 10k would probably be the perfect length to get a really good workout and feel more accomplished. I ran a half marathon about a year ago and still to this day cannot believe I did it. At the time I wasn't sure I was going to make it, but when it was over, I was on such a high and was so proud of myself! Although at mile 9 I thought my legs were going to give out...they were numb and I think a lot of it had to do with not taking any of the amino vitale that was offered...i think it is so gross, but it think it would have done wonders for my muscles!

I have, and it's so much fun! In my home town they organise this every year, and there are always thousands of contestants. Along the running route brass bands are playing, the whole town is cheering,... I recommend it to everybody! Oh, and I run 5k. Going for 10k in October!
