Healthy cooking is so fun in the Fall, with dozens of flavors and spices to enhance the season and seemingly limitless recipe combinations. There are a handful of ingredients you'll want to have on hand throughout the cooler months as you head toward the holidays (think shelf-stable, long-lasting, go-with-everything must haves!). Here's what we'll be stocking our pantries with for a delicious season of clean cooking and baking.
Sweet Potatoes
You're going to want lots of sweet potatoes [2] on hand. They make a delicious, fibrous, nutritious addition to anything from pancakes [3] to scrambles [4] to smoothies [5] and soups [6]. You can store them on your counter or in the fridge to extend their shelf life.
Oats
From muffins to hearty Fall smoothies [7] to overnight oats [8] and warm comforting oatmeal [9], oats are a shelf-stable Fall staple [10] for healthy eaters.
Pumpkin Purée
Obviously, you're going to want lots of canned pumpkin on your shelves! There are so many healthy foods to make with a can of pumpkin [11], whether it's a smoothie, soup, baked good, or snack.
Beans
Canned beans are ideal for all those healthy Fall slow-cooker recipes [12]. They amp up protein and aid in digestion [13], all while enhancing your favorite comfort foods (hello, chili [14]!)
Cinnamon
This sweet spice makes food taste extra festive, and it's anti-inflammatory and can help fight disease [15]! You can even add it to savory foods like curries and soups.
Nuts
Stock up on almonds, pecans, and more for your healthy Fall recipes [16], like vegan pumpkin bread and almond apple smoothies [17].
