I'm a Fitness Editor and These Are the 10 Healthy Staples I Always Get at Target

Feb 4 2018 - 11:00am

You're likely well aware by now that you're not the only person who goes to Target [1] with the intention of buying toothpaste and leaves with approximately 4,386 additional items. It's OK. We're right there with you.

Why not add some healthy foods [2] to your Target haul? Each time I end up in the hallowed halls of the big red bullseye, I'm so impressed with the amazing offerings they have in the grocery department. Whether I'm restocking my specifically flavored La Croix [3], looking for a high-protein instant breakfast [4], or replenishing my almond milk [5] supply, I know that I can count on Target to keep my fridge and pantry full of healthy options.

Ahead are my top 10 go-to items when shopping for healthy foods at Target — enjoy!

Kodiak Cakes Power Waffles

No time to whip up your own protein powder batter for waffles? Fear not. Kodiak Cakes take your standard Eggo to the next level with nutritious options like these Power Waffles [7], Superfood Energy Waffles [8], and other fun and yummy foods like microwavable mug cakes [9].

Navitas Organics Supplement Powders

Need something exotic like cacao or maca powder? Target carries the Navitas Organics brand [10], so you can stock up on otherwise pricey supplements for your superfood smoothies at a more affordable price.

La Croix

While your local supermarket might have the standard lemon and plain flavors, Target typically has all the La Croix flavors, including the divisive coconut flavor (my personal fave), mango, passionfruit [11], and the blends like pineapple strawberry.

Tone It Up Protein Powder

I can't even explain the excitement that I felt when Target started carrying my favorite protein powder. Tone It Up Protein [12] is just like my beloved Perfect Fit Protein (same ingredients and flavor!), and now I can run down the street to my local Target and nab a tub for under $25.

Simply Balanced Healthy Foods

Whether you need eggs, almond milk, frozen fruit, freeze-dried strawberries, quinoa, organic pasta, or produce, Target's Simply Balanced line [13] has it — and it's typically way cheaper than the competition. Lately I've been going for their lean ground turkey to use in my favorite lean chili recipe — some slow-cooker Fall goodness with a healthy edge.

Siggi's Icelandic Yogurt

I'm full-blown, stage IV clinger obsessed with Siggi's [14] and Icelandic yogurt [15] in general. Fortunately, it's conveniently located at my nearby Target. And yours, too.

RXBAR

If RXBAR [16] is the only bar you'll eat (or keep in your gym bag), then you're in luck. While you're cruising the aisles of Target for 200 percent more items than you initially intended to buy, you can also pick up these "No B.S." bars.

Health Ade Kombucha

Though POPSUGAR has Health Ade kombucha [17] on tap in our HQ office, I load my refrigerator with the Reishi Chocolate (and recently, Holiday Cheers) flavors. It's typically slightly cheaper at Target than it is at Whole Foods, which is a plus.

Califia Toasted Coconut Almond Milk

To be totally honest, I was never super into almond milk . . . until I tried this. Califia's toasted coconut variety [18] is one of the best plant-based products I've ever tried. It's tasty, creamy, and perfectly sweet despite being sugar free (I'm perplexed by this daily).

Keurig K Cups

I just got myself a Keurig thanks to the 50 percent off coupon in last month's POPSUGAR Must Have box [19] (all about that bargain lyfe), and immediately after ordering, I headed to Target for coffee pods [20]. I wasn't quite ready to purchase 800,000 pods from Costco (yet), so I opted for the reasonably priced, moderate-size alternative at Target. This way I can dabble and see what I like before I get into bulk ordering.
