3 Healthy (and Easy) Ways to Perk Up Your Morning

Late bedtimes and early morning conference calls are just a few of the reasons why we can't always jump out of bed ready to face the day. But whether you're a morning person or not, a few habit changes can be the difference between having a productive morning and feeling like your brain is functioning under fog. Read on for a few suggestions on how to easily perk up your morning.

  1. Don't over-rely on caffeine. Nothing's wrong with a daily cup of joe, but drinking too much caffeine can leave you irritated, jumpy, and unable to focus. And if you're too reliant on coffee to keep you awake and alert, that inevitable afternoon crash will have you reaching for more, creating an endless cycle that can disrupt sleep, leaving you fatigued the next day. Instead of drinking cup after cup, stick to one or two a day. If you just have to have that mug in your hand, switch to less-caffeinated green tea and gulp away.
  2. Wake up naturally. Quality of sleep matters, and it can be the difference between groggily hitting the snooze button and waking up refreshed. Try to stick to a regular sleeping pattern so your normal wake up schedule comes naturally, and use these tips for making sure you get enough deep sleep.
  3. Stretch it out. Any movement helps, so if you're not one to hop out of bed in your workout clothes, incorporate just a few easy stretches into your morning routine, like these morning yoga poses. You'll feel more energized in minutes, and ready to take on your day.
