How Important Is Gym Location?

Does Your Gym's Location Affect Your Motivation?

When I used to work from home, I'd take a long lunch break to walk to my gym for a daily workout. But since it wasn't exactly close — about a mile away — my gym trips turned into hours-long excursions. So, of course, my exercise regimen was the first thing to go when I got too busy with work.

Now that I've joined a gym that's a few blocks from my office, however, I find it easier to motivate myself to go to the gym. I know that I can get in and out fast, and still have time to make after-work activities. What about you? Does where your gym is located affect how often you go?

I actually just changed gyms and DI'm super bummed that the new one is twice as far away. But the cost was less than half of the old one...so this time money won out!

I just changed gyms to one that's walking distance from my new apartment. I found myself skipping workouts after the move - and the new one is even open 24/7, making things even easier for me.

My gym is in my apartment complex :). But I only go to cycle or use the elliptical (or if it's raining, the treadmill). I prefer running outdoors and doing weights/kettlebell at home, as well as yoga at the studio down the street. I do move in a month, into my townhouse, so I lose the ability to have somewhere to go when it's raining, but I'm hoping to buy a REAL bike so I won't really need the gym anymore!
