How Many Nights a Week Do You Cook Dinner?

When it comes down to it, cooking at home is both less expensive and healthier. Having the energy to chop, prep and cook at the end of the day is another matter altogether. I strive to cook healthy homemade dinners five to six nights a week. Am I always successful? Nope and tonight I already know that my family is taqueria bound. But what about you. . .

At least 6 nights a week. I'd rather control what's going into my body, plus its just so much cheaper!

I don't cook; my husband does. But a lot of times during the week it's more heat-and-eat because he doesn't usually get home unil 8:30 or 9 o'clock.

my family has never been big on dinners. we cook lunches, it's the biggest meal of the day.

We eat at home 7 nights out of the week but usually we don't cook anything special just heat something up. The husband usually cooks when we do make food anyway, I'm just too lazy.

*julieulie* I'm totally with you. I really am finding it more and more important to say no to boxed and processed foods. Most of us have no idea what these long-lettered ingredients do to our bodies, weight just may be the simplest issue. My hubby and I are university students (im pre-med, hes med), and with all the health implications we see, its really hard not to want to make everything my self. Although our studies are demanding, cooking together has really become such a fun thing now. However,I will admit, I am a slave to wheat thins...

as a single almost-college (read:broke) student still living with the family, i cook my dinners a lot. i really enjoy it, actually. maybe the rest of my family will pick up on my healthy eating habits someday ;p

I cook every night, but how much effort I put in varies. Usually, I'll make a huge batch of something on Sunday or Monday and we'll eat the leftovers for most of the week. My favorite thing to make is a big pot of vegetable soup. I'll make that and we'll eat it all week. It just gets better the longer it sits in the fridge...yummy! That and a good hearty salad and you've got dinner.

5 days a week. We usually eat out on Friday's and we usually order pizza one night of the week. Other than that, it's all home cooked. Every once and awhile we eat out during the week but not too often.

"Cooking" is such a hard to define thing. Mostly mixing up a can of tuna, or grabbing fresh fruit out of the fridge. Heh.

5 nights a week. Saturday--we do take out from our fave restaurants, and Sunday is the day of mom's cooking! :D

How many nights do I actually "cook" and not just heat something up? Probably only about 4.

I probably cook 2 nights a week. thursdays I don't eat dinner because I have soccer, and I feel sluggish if I eat before, and the fiance has hockey 2 nights a week and he does the same thing. Besides that I will either scrounge around and find some left overs, or something quick. We usually eat out friday saturday and sunday.

We order waaay too many pizzas- about one every week or every other week. But when one of us cooks, we eat really well so I guess it's not the most terrible thing in the world. I love cooking, so when I have time I'm happy to do it.

Eat in vs Eat out.. probably at least 6 nights a week. But that doesn't always mean we are cooking. I try to strive for 3-4 meals a week, leave a few days for left overs and/or evening of a sandwich and fruit for dinner kind of thing. It gets tricky with our schedules sometimes.

Pretty much every night. It's a good thing I don't live in Asheville, NC... because they have *the best* vegetarian/vegan restaurants there. I'd be tempted to eat out a lot more if we lived there!

I voted 2, but that doesn't mean I eat out five times a week. I'll usually cook a "real" meal a couple times a week, eat out maybe once, and the rest of the time I'll eat something that can be prepared within ten minutes, like a veggie burger/salad/beans. Or cereal!

Just about the only thing I know how to cook is I don't cook that often.

5 to 6. And always healthy! My secret? I use a menu-planning service so it really frees up my time to think/act/worry on other things. (You know, like the sugar network!)

Well, I said 6 nights, but my husband cooks a lot of the meals, too. Since I am a mom at home, if I don't cook dinner, then I'm cooking a big lunch for my boys, plus I usually make breakfast (no boxed cereals of pop tarts here), so I definitely cook a meal a day no matter what. We eat out in some form probably once a week - take home sushi (for me) and chicken fingers (for the boys) from the grocery store, the buffet, a local taqueria or something similar. We don't do regular restaurants often - our boys won't sit still long enough, and it makes it a total waste. And I don't know how people can afford to eat out much more often than we do - it gets expensive fast!

A couple night a week I'll bake fish or chicken with a veggie and maybe some couscous. Other nights, I like to just chill with a bowl of cereal or a big fat baked sweet potato and veggies - not rally "cooking" but better than fast food!

I agree with kia -- larger meals cooked on the weekends make it easy to reheat thru the week. A couple things I've found work well is to shop on Sunday for the week and get some sort of cheap seafood for Monday dinner (it's quick to cook), and get a roasted chicken (inexpensive, and can be used for sandwiches, salad, casserole, etc. very easily). That stuff and a lasagna or stew usually get us through the week.

I am urging my husband to cook more or at least re-heat homecooked meals so that I am not handling the kitchen seven nights a week. So I'll make stew in large batches for the freezer or extra rice to toss with some canned beans.

I cook 7 nights a week, and always from scratch. I do NOT let boxed crap into my kitchen -- everything made fresh. And by cook, I actually mean cook -- not scrambled eggs for dinner.
I cook every night of the week. We never go out - tonight MAY be an exception. Oh, and on a lazy, drunken Saturday we ordered pizza for the first time in 4 or 5 months. Yep. Seriously, it was a crutch (had pizza every Thursday, and McDonalds every day of the week) Since then, I feel a lot healthier. Just need to get to the gym more...haha.
