Jessica Simpson Heads Back to the Gym

Jess Feels the Burn but Goes Back For More

The media hasn't been kind to Jessica Simpson or her curvier physique, which repeatedly made headlines throughout the year. Still, she's hardly throwing in the towel. Even while a nationwide Sunday NFL spoof, jokingly compared Jessica's physique to that of a "defensive tackle," she's managed to keep a healthy perspective on fitness and surround herself with positive friends and family, like trainer, Mike Alexander.

In fact, US Weekly reports that Jessica is hitting the gym hard and sticking with it — even when the training gets tough. Training with Alexander is what helped the star to achieve her famous Dukes of Hazzard bod, so it's no surprise that the training's intense, prompting Jess to Twitter, "Why am I still hurting from our workout earlier? I'm getting old! See you tomorrow with a pouty face and sore buns." Alexander responded, "Probably because you're a badass, and your efforts know no limitations." I'm inclined to agree — despite media taunting, she continues to show how she's rising above it — staying happy and fit.

I really think she needs to learn how to sustain her healthy spurts longterm. It seems like she goes on these "health kicks" to lose weight and stop people from teasing her and then once she's thin, she stops the working out and eating right and goes back to being a bit on the soft side.

Jessica was never obese, so I think a whole diatribe on the obesity epidemic in this country can be debated somewhere else. It's completely irrelevant.

One more thing...if accepting a few extra pounds was ok with everyone then Self magazine wouldn't have photoshopped the cover with Kelly Clarkson on it! Ok I'm done now!

Bottom line: being overweight or underweight are both unhealthy. Someone's either anorexic or battling the bulge. Why is it that when someone is overweight and telling us they are ok with it, we're supposed to embrace that because they "accept themselves?" We should all be so enlightened! Obesity is an epidemic in this country. Every time I open a magazine or turn on the computer or listen to the news, there's something about the rising costs of obesity and the dangers it puts on our society, especially our children. Diabetes is rapidly on the rise and so is heart disease...all because of our gluttony! I am tired of the mixed messages we are sent by society that tells us to embrace overweight individuals and yet cries out in frustration over their expanding waistlines and increased health problems. Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and countless others, have all stated that they were "comfortable" with their curves and next thing you know, they're sporting their new lighter, fitter bodies. Don't get me wrong, I think if you're overweight, you need to do something about it, and they are doing that. But don't try to get people to accept their overweight selves by telling them that it's ok. It's not.

I don't see the big deal either. So she gained and then she lost it. So many people do this everyday and it's nothing special.

I for one am sick of Jessica's weight issues. Why does the media make a big deal out of her weight. Jessica just does this for publicity. Who cares if she goes to the gym. I guess thats all Jessica is about.

Well, I hope this exercising behavior is more long lasting. Having one's weight yo-yo up and down is hard on the body.

She was definitely a little heavy, but JEEZ. Did any of these people that gave her sh*t have an overweight relative? I agree that it's important not to call overweight "curvy" or to promote crappy eating habits, but the Jessica-bashing has goten out of had. I think going to the gym WAS the rise-above choice because ultimately it will benefit HER.

Jessica is a pretty girl with or without a little weight on her, but she doesn't seem that healthy to me. Her weight is constantly going up and down. Sometimes I think she does it on purpose just to stay in the press.

is giving into the criticism and hitting the gym and dieting to stop the teasing really "rising above"?
