Kimberly Snyder, clinical nutritionist and author of The Beauty Detox Solution, says a plant-based diet is optimal for clear skin, renewed energy, and weight loss. We asked Kimberly what one food she recommends for weight loss and why, and she suggested her signature recipe for the Glowing Green Smoothie.

Kimberly explains all the benefits of her Glowing Green Smoothie and why it is a big hit among her clients:

"In one delicious drink, we get the fuel to not only lose weight, but rejuvenate our skin, fight aging, and increase our energy. It's so easy, it's so simple, and it has worked for all my clients, from Hollywood stars to busy moms and schoolteachers.

I often work as the nutritionist on different movie sets, and this amazing thing happens when I do: I start making the Glowing Green Smoothie, and the next thing you know, you look around, and all the actors and directors and producers are drinking it every day, because they love the way it makes them feel."

The Glowing Green Smoothie


  1. 1 1/2 cups water
  2. 1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped
  3. 3 to 4 stalks organic celery
  4. 1/2 head of a large bunch or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
  5. 1 organic apple, cored and chopped
  6. 1 organic pear, cored and chopped
  7. 1 organic banana
  8. Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon
  9. Optional: 1/3 bunch organic cilantro (stems OK) and 1/3 bunch organic parsley (stems OK)


  1. Add water and chopped head of romaine to blender. Blend at a low speed until smooth.
  2. Add spinach, celery, apple, and pear, and blend at high speed.
  3. Add cilantro and parsley (which help chelate heavy metals from your body).
  4. Finish with banana and lemon.

I'm a very busy mother of 3. 2 & half years later I'm still working on losing my pregnancy weight! Love this makes so much so I can just easily pull it out of the refrigerator! I like that its not overly sweet like other smoothies I have tryed. I'm replacing breakfast & lunch with this smoothie so far I'm not hungry during the day.

I have have made this but with out the banana.. This winter i am making kale, carrots, celery, beetroot, ginger, apple, parsley, basel and a clove of garlic. You put as much as you would like but only 1clove garlic. To me the taste is just wonderful. Please try and let me know what you think.

I just made this drink. I just started to take myd iet a little bir more serious, I am very focussed to loose weight! Well the taste is pretty good. I replace the banana for carrot just because i did not have one. Anyhow tomorrow I am drinking it again with a banana and let's see if it taste any diffrence. Again the taste is not bad at all I taste more of the pear/carrot =)

I have been making this smoothie for 2 weeks, I add an inch of ginger as well. I divide it into 4 servings and drink it in the morning before working out. It does taste good, refreshing, especially when cold. it does fuel my workout and honestly, it's hard for me to tell if it's doing anything for my skin. I will keep drinking it because it's light and I do have enough energy for my workouts.

I just made this yesterday, quite tasty in my opinion! Makes several servings... I do heed some warning for anyone just starting to get in the swing of a healthy diet. I have been slowly converting my boyfriend from his bread, meat,protein shake dominated diet to a daily 50/50 veggies&fruits/bread or meat (being realistic). Well, he also found the recipe tasty and had about two servings... within an hour he was going through a serious detox in the restroom for the remainder of the evening. Please excuse the TMI but what a terrible experience if someone were to make this for the first time for breakfast and had a busy day ahead of them. I had no problems but for someone who is not used to raw veggies and fruits especially in the liquid form, the fiber of veggies and fermentation of fruit may lead to seemingly adverse effects in the digestion process. The body will regulate. Felt I should forewarn those who may have a current diet like my boyfriends and are trying it for the first time!

I just tried a similar version of this smoothie today. I have the Magic Bullet so I can have the entire serving. 2 Handful of romaine lettuce, 2 handfuls or baby spinach, 1 medium very riped banana, 1 apple and half a lemon squeezed. It actually tastes very good to me.

@marygrether\u00a0 drink it. I have type two as well. mixing this small amount of fruit is fine. you just shouldn't overdue it.

I have been drinking this for two weeks. I have had an increase in energy and my skin tone has never looked better. I really like it and have tried kale also which is a little stronger taste and one to get used to. I give it a 5 star rating. A friend told me to add a carrot if the kale was to strong so I will try that.

Okay, if you're going to post stuff like this please make sure it is accurate. I just went to Kimberly Snyder's website and her recipe is slightly different and is for 2-4 servings! Nowhere above is the # of servings listed, so I made this smoothie thinking I needed to drink the entire thing! For reference, here is the recipe on Kimberly's website:

I love this smoothie! I use a magic bullet to make it, so its a bit smaller. It's usually 2 celery stalks, a handful of spinach and a few romaine leaves. Then I add a splash of water and lemon juice. My favorite fruits to use (the ones that cover up the vegetable taste the most in my opinion) are organic bananas, pineapples and mangoes. I usually only do 2 fruits though.

I really want to try this. Saw a similiar smoothie on Fat, Sick and almost dead. It helped the Australian man loose about 200 lbs and get back on track on the road to health.

I make a simillar smoothie daily - try adding a banana if you don't like the "green" taste - it makes a world of difference!

I'm a smoothie person, drink them all the time. But I made this and could barely get it down. It's like liquid lettuce, and the smell...gah! I do think it energized me a little though. But was it worth it?

Wayyyy too many fruits for a drink. I like to eat some of my fruits and veggies thankyouverymuch. I drink a green smoothie everyday but it doesn't have all of that in it. I do eat all of those foods but I can't imagine having it all in one cup. I like to space out my fruits and vegetables through out the day.

It doesn't sound like it would be the tastiest thing in the world, but I like getting all those veggies and nutrients in it. I don't taste the spinach in my smoothies though so maybe this would taste better than it sounds. Has anyone tried it?
