These Protein Pancakes Are So Delicious, I'm Throwing My Protein Powder in the Trash

Apr 3 2018 - 2:25pm

Listen, I have some news for you: those protein-powder pancakes [1] you "love"? You don't actually love them. You've been telling yourself how awesome it is that you can have "pancakes" on a healthy diet, but here's the deal: you've been living a lie. And I know this because I was in your shoes, too.

I know, it's a lot to take in. I've decided to start a support group for everyone who's been duped by the protein-powder-pancake farce. While we've been busy mixing what is essentially powdered cardboard into mashed bananas and almond milk, we were too deep into our own supplement-fueled charade to realize there is a way, way better option out there: Kodiak Cakes.

Can you imagine eating pancakes that actually taste like pancakes, but with more nutrition? This isn't fake news, it's real life. I just experienced it myself. And it is glorious. Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes Flapjack and Waffle Mix [4] has changed the game for my breakfast, my diet, and TBH my outlook on life.

Envision your favorite Krusteaz or Bisquick pancakes from your childhood (or last weekend, not here to judge) hitting the gym, getting super shredded, and then also tasting better. These honestly taste better than those ultra processed pancake mixes, and they also provide a whole-grain, nutrient-dense meal with 14 grams (or more!) of muscle-nourishing protein [5] per serving. Let that sink in: you can literally have your (pan)cake and eat it, too.

These Power Cakes come in multiple flavors, including the classic buttermilk. My new favorite is an upcoming flavor — Almond Poppyseed! — but I also am a huge fan of Cinnamon Oat and Peanut Butter. You can get them at Target, Costco, or Amazon Prime and Pantry . . . so literally the most convenient of places. Each box is typically under five bucks a pop.

The idea of eating something you actually love and enjoy — and having that food also be super nourishing and good for you — shouldn't be such a far-fetched concept. And in my experience with Kodiak Cakes, it's not. Healthier foods don't have to taste "healthy," [7] and you don't have to sacrifice the joy of food for your health (on the low I'm also addicted to their freezer waffles and now their forthcoming Brownie-in-a-Cup). This is a rare "best of both worlds" situation, and I'll be shouting it from the rooftops for a long time.
