Kraft Shredded Cheese Breakdown

I'm not going to lie to you — I love cheese. I use it all the time to add a hint of flavor, protein, calcium, and cheesy goodness to my foods. I honestly believe that cheese makes everything better. I also love anything that makes my life easier, so every week, I buy bags of shredded cheese to sprinkle on my salads, soups, sandwiches, pasta, and omelets.

When I walked down the dairy aisle, there's a huge variety of shredded cheeses, and I wondered how they compared nutritionally. So I decided to make this handy chart of Kraft shredded cheeses. For all the 8-ounce packages, the serving sizes varied between either seven, eight, or nine servings per bag. I did some calculations to make it easier to compare them, so all these numbers are based on 1-ounce serving sizes.

Looks like its best to eat the regular or 2% stuff the fat free is pumped with extra sodium none of us need.

I always get 2% cheese.

I use 1/4 regular to 3/4 lowfat. That way I still get the flavor and the payoff of the full fat version, but mixing it with the lowfat makes it slightly less guilt inducing. Except for mozz, though. I use fresh. I'm sure it's sickeningly unhealthy, but it's my treat food. I am right there with ilanac...if it weren't for cheese, I could handle going vegan, but as is, NOPE!

My husband and I use the fat free cheddar for tacos, soups, etc. and use the fat free mozz when we make pizzas - honestly, you don't miss much and it's so much better for you! Of course, I probably use twice as much as I would normally, so I don't think I save on the calories, but I do save on the fat...

you just made my day with this - i'm a sucker for cheese and honestly, my love for the stuff is the only reason that i'm not a vegan by now. i think that it's great to see that the fat free cheddar and mozz are both soo within my diet right now

I use 2% cheese for my husband for his mac and cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. As myself, I removed cheese from my diet. Given my family history of heart disease (due to clogged arteries), it's better for me to avoid it.

wow, I'm totally getting the 2% from now on. How does the part-skim mozzarella have more cholesterol than the regular though?
