Lance Armstrong Crashes in Stage 5 of Tour of California

Tour of California Update: Lance Armstrong Crashes on Stage 5

I have been following the Tour of California on the race's website and Twitter feed. I just read that Lance Armstrong crashed outside of Visilia, CA, earlier today. His long-time coach Johan Bruyneel tweeted that the crash was huge. Armstrong is headed to the hospital for X-rays and his face was bloodied by the accident, indicating that his head hit the asphalt with some force. No stranger to racing injuries, Armstrong broke his collarbone last March while racing in Spain.

Just a few miles into stage 5, a rider hit some loose gravel, skidded and fell, taking other riders down with him, including Lance. Earlier in the day, Floyd Landis (the cyclist stripped of his 2006 Tour de France title for doping) publicly accused Armstrong of doping, which Armstrong vehemently denied. Not a great day for the face of American cycling. Hope he recovers well and this accident doesn't affect his plans for the upcoming French tour.

I hope he heals quickly -- crashing is scary. The tri community is all a buzz about Lance doing Kona in 2011... I've heard everyone from he'll podium to he'll go top 10 to he won't be much competition for the pros. We'll see !

Sad to hear that Lance crashed. I really like him and I don't think that he ever doped while training or competing. In this current climate in sports every elite athlete lives under the unfounded suspicion that their are doping or somehow doing something illegal or unethical to achieve and maintain their elite physicality. I've watched numerous programs on the oddity that is Lance Armstrong and read a few scientific studies that have been done on him. He is one amazing physical specimen. Its like his getting testicular cancer then brain cancer actually improved his ability to regulate different functions in his body and to tap into all of his energy reserves. The man can drop his own metabolism at will. He can function at a high level with little to no oxygen available. He can continue to father children after receiving massive doses of chemotherapy drugs, massive doses of radiation therapy, having the cancerous testicle removed and multiple blood transfusions. My nephews and I think that Lance Armstrong may actually be the human version of Superman. He is not of this world and our sun gives him incredible superpowers.

Crashing sucks. Wonder if he was shaky after the doping accusation. People keep making them and he keeps denying it. I wonder if we will ever know the truth.
