Light Beer Saves Calories, but Is It Worth It?

Do You Drink Light Beer?

You could save some calories at your Memorial Day barbecue by opting for light beer, but is it worth it? I think I'd rather pay extra for organic beer or indulge in the full-flavor foam than drink something less tasty for the sake of counting calories. How about you?

Beer does = good. It depends on my mood, sometimes I want a light beer and sometimes a dark one, though usually I like the lights in the summer and the darks in the winter. Usually I drink whatever everyone else is drinking, I'm not too picky.

I looooove me some beer! I prefer full-flavored beer, but I'll drink some bud light too :)

If I'm drinking lager, I always go with the light versions because they taste crisper to me. But if I'm drinking darker beers, I don't bother because I like the full flavor. But yeah, for whatever reason, I'll drink a cold Miller Lite over an MGD any day.

Light beer= low alcohol content so you'll just end up drinking more. Why not go for the full flavor beer and drink less?

Light beer can be good -and- full-bodied beer can be low in calories. Guinness Draught is only 125 calories per 12oz., just 30 calories more than a Bud Light; Both have their place in my cooler. (You can see calories and alcohol content for most popular beers at

beer = good Amen! :highfive: I don't count calories when I'm drinking beer. I think that's the last thing I think about.

I prefer beer with rich flavor, but I (reluctantly) go for the low-carb beer if I know I'll be having more than a couple. It's just not good.

Where's the "sometimes" or "if there's nothing else" options? Just kidding. In general, prefer full-flavor beers.

I agree with Gumdrop and Girloverboard. When I drink beer, I want a good beer, something that I can sip and enjoy. The stronger the beer for me, the more time between sips I take. I'll avoid another food if I have to to have a good beer. :)

gumdrops, I was going to say exactly the same thing. I'd rather eat more veggies and split my burger or go bunless at a BBQ if it means I can allow myself a *good* beer versus something that I think tastes like total crap. I'm not trying to knock on other people's tastes in beer - some people really do just like the lagers - but a lot of the light beers smell/taste skunky and/or cheap to me. Get me a porter or a stout! If I'm going to drink my calories, I'd rather have something with flavor.

I like full-flavor beers, as I'm less likely to drink multiples if I can just enjoy and savor that single delicious one.

I do not drink any alcohol, I have no interest in it. Now, give me a glass of seltzer with pomegranate juice and I am all over that! :P

don't drink alcohol at all, and use beer only for cooking with (stews and batter etc), but i imagine i would prefer light beer for being less strong and heavy...or maybe that's the point of beer?

Yeah, I don't like any beer either, tori.

I'd be curious as to who drinks "regular" beer versus who just doesn't like beer. I tend to fall in the latter category... :-P
