We all come across a certain point during your workout where you just want to stop, call it quits, go home and be done. Sometimes you have these moments more than once in a single workout. Maybe you only get this feeling once a week, or once a month. No matter what, you need some motivation to keep you going.
A few years ago when I was working for a big name fancy schmancy gym, I was chatting with a personal trainer when I said to her "I wish I could have your drive and motivation. When you workout, you really work out!" She thanked me and told me that she uses that time to listen to music. She explained that she loves music and at no other point in her day can she really listen and enjoy it. She said that she enjoys her music so much that she doesn't really notice how much energy she is exerting while working out.
I am motivated by music as well, however not to that extent. I really enjoy music while I am working out, however I need music to help me along, run to the beat, and give me an extra energy boost. I get to a point where I'd like to slow down for a little bit and then "Womanizer" starts playing and I actually pick up the pace. I have a "Running List" on my iTouch that is filled with high energy songs, mainly of Lady GaGa, Spice Girls, and Shakira. It is a pretty good mix because I know I can put it on shuffle and I won't want to skip over any songs that are too low energy. Another genre that I really enjoy while working out is showtunes. Yep, showtunes. Hairspray, Chicago, Avenue Q, all have some great upbeat songs that I can't help but enjoy and want to move my body to.
What music motivates you to get your body moving?
