Olympic Update August 2 For Team USA

London Update August 2: Wins in the Sand

Lots of excitement in the sand and water yesterday as Team USA continues to rock it in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Spoiler alert: We have scores and medal news from recent events after the break, so keep reading only if you're ready for the updates.

Beach Volleyball
It was looking a little iffy for Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings, after losing the first set against the Austrian Schwaiger sisters, but the US duo came out on top after winning the next two sets. The Kessy and Ross team beat out Spain today, and the men aren't doing too shabby either as Sean Rosenthal and Jacob Gibb beat out Latvia in just two sets. Later today, we'll be rooting for Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser who are competing against the Czech Republic.

It's another gold for Team USA, as the women beat out Australia in the 4x200m free relay. We haven't scored a gold medal for a relay since 2004, so this was a huge moment for Missy Franklin, Dana Vollmer, Shannon Vreeland, and anchorwoman Allison Schmitt. Katie Ledecky won the heat for the 800m freestyle — at 15 years old, she's the youngest member on the US team. To add to the good news, Elizabeth Beisel and Missy Franklin both won the heat in the 200m backstroke and we'd love to see them bring home gold in the finals tomorrow.

In men's swimming, Nathan Adrian won gold for the US in the 100m freestyle and Peter Vanderkaay took bronze for the 400m freestyle. Look for another Locthe-Phelps showdown in the pool today, both swimming in the 200 IM today. But before Lochte even makes it into the pool to face off against Phelps, he'll be gunning for gold in the 200m backstroke.

Amazing to watch, the men's synchronized divers are strong yet graceful, and USA did it again by winning bronze in the men's synchronized 3m springboard. Get psyched for the women's competition that begins on Friday.

Danell Leyva of the men's team took bronze in the individual all-around competition and today Gabby Douglas won gold for the women's individual all-around!
