One-Piece Swimsuits For Swimming Lessons

A Reader Asks: Swimsuit Recommendations?

This question comes from Fit Community member ShelleyHFan in the Get Fit For 2010 group. Can you help her on her hunt for a fitness-minded one-piece?

Speedo at ShopStyle

I'm going to be taking swimming lessons this Summer but I can't find a suitable one piece. Does anyone know where I could buy an appropriate swimsuit? I want a one piece, of course, and athletic. I don't know if it matters but I think I'm kind of apple shaped, look good but be able to learn and swim comfortably and not worry about my suit being ill fitting or uncomfortable. My goal is eventually to swim out in the ocean or be in a triathlon one day.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

as a lifeguard and someone who swam competitively for 10+ years and still swims regularly i suggest the Speedo endurance are great cause they have a chlorine resistant fabric, they are a little pricey but Speedo normally have pretty good deal. one of mine has lasted me over 5 years so it's a great investment especially if you learn to love swimming!

I second Lands End. 365 days a year they have a good variety of swimsuits for swimming, water aerobics and lounging. Reasonable priced and well made suits.

I'd look for something from a swimwear company like Speedo or TYR who build suits to be durable and have the kind of fit appropriate for athletic swimming.

I buy all of my athletic suits at places like TJ Maxx, Ross, and Marshalls. They carry well made bathing suits for a discounted price! If you plan to be swimming a lot, you can't beat that! The chlorine in the pool can eat up a suit pretty quickly!
