Relax Already: Make a "Me" Date

Relax Already: Make a "Me" Date

We are living in stressful times and just listening to the news gives me a kink in my neck. Forbes is reporting that 25 percent more women feel stressed by the current economic crisis than men. Are you one of those women? I encourage everyone to make non-negotiable fitness dates to ensure fitting workouts into busy lives, but I think it is important to schedule some "me" time too. Women tend to be the caretakers in many situations, and in stressful times, it is necessary to take care of oneself especially if you are taking care of others.

Chronic stress can wreak havoc on a body and play a part in creating heart conditions as well as weight gain. Taking time out of your day to take care of yourself is important to your physical health as well as your mental health. So pencil in a pedicure like Oprah, schedule a relaxing bath, or simply take five minutes to sit and breathe. Your body and your mind will appreciate the attention.

I need more "me" dates where I'm not doing anything other than relaxing in bed with a good movie...

I take a me day once a month. One Saturday a month I focus on me. For that one day I'm not a wife or Mom, I'm just me and I take the day to do whatever I want or whatever strikes my fancy. If that means staying in bed in my jammies reading all day or going out to the canyon and hiking/photographing etc. so be it. My hubby does the same, one Saturday a month he focuses on himself. We also both work out regularly and our exercise time is for ourselves as well, but the whole day "me dates" has proved to be quite beneficial to us invididually, as a couple and even beneficial to our children and family as a whole.

Exercise is my "me date", too. I also like to relax with a cup of coffee and read a magazine for about 15 minutes a day just to unwind from the day. It really helps!
