Definition: Rhomboid

These are the muscles in the middle of your back on either side of your spine. They help to hold your scapula (shoulder blade) onto the ribcage and are shaped like a rhombus (hence they're name).

The rhomboids retract and elevate the scapula, which means the muscles pull the shoulder blade in toward the spine as well as up. Breastfeeding moms are often weak in the rhomboids.
