Honey-Roasted Chickpeas Make the Perfect Sweet (Protein) Treat

If you are craving something sweet but know inhaling candy will have you feeling flat, reach for this warm, low-cal option instead: honey-roasted cinnamon chickpeas. High in protein and fiber, chickpeas offer a satisfying crunch when roasted, and if you toss them with a little honey and cinnamon, you'll have a sweet treat that will also give you a boost of energy.

Roasted Honey Cinnamon Chickpeas


  1. 15-ounce can organic garbanzo beans
  2. 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  3. 1 tablespoon honey
  4. 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  5. 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  6. 1/8 teaspoon sea salt


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat silicone mat.
  2. Drain and rinse the chickpeas in a colander. Place them on a towel to dry off.
  3. Spread chickpeas on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until crispy. Test one, and if it's still soft, bake for longer.
  4. While the chickpeas are still hot, toss them in a bowl with the oil, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Enjoy as is, or for a caramelized effect, place them back in the oven for another 10 minutes or so.
  5. Store leftover chickpeas in an airtight container.

I soaked the chick peas for 24 hours and they soften a but were still kinda hard. I roasted them and came out crispy, they even started to pop. However, when I ate them they had that grindy (lack of better word) kind of bite, they were not "fluffy" crispy. Should I soak them in hot water instead?

I was apprehensive about making these at first, mainly because I do not like beans of any kind. I am trying to lose some weight, while at the same time still enjoy some of the snacking I enjoy doing, especially when it comes to my sweet tooth. I made these this afternoon, and they are delish! The perfect sweetness, and crunch all mixed together in a healthy snack. I will def. have to make more of these!

To others who didn't think these were sweet enough: perhaps add more honey or add some brown sugar or other sweetener to the mix? Also, don't cook them too long after you add the honey mix or they will begin to burn.

I tried these today and they soooo good! Lightly sweet, kind of reminded me of a light french toast flavor. These totally took care of my sweet tooth and even my teenage daughter like them :) I love that these are totally clean and so easy to make. Thank you!!

These were awful. They weren't sweet at all and were way too crunchy. It sounded like a good idea, but failed miserably.

I tried them. They did turn out just like the picture and were easy to make, great instructions and pictures. Unfortunately, the 100% concensus was yuck. We hoped that they would taste sweet and cinnamon'y, but not at all. my search for a candied type result continues.

Make it vegan by using pure maple syrup instead of the honey.
