In her day-to-day, Roz Mays is a pole dancing instructor [2] and badass body-positive activist — but on a recent sunny day in Waikiki, HI, Roz transformed into a fabulous mermaid.

Roz recently took to Instagram to share pictures [3] from her mermaid-inspired [4] photo shoot with Coral's Candid Photography [5]. In the pictures, she sported a shell bra top, pink lei, and a giant pink mermaid tail, of course. Roz hilariously noted in one of her captions, "I'm a gotdamn mermaid."

While Roz loved her empowering photoshoot, she was unfortunately the target of some unwarranted comments. Faced with some particularly negative responses, Roz decided to share screenshots [6] of some of the hateful comments in an attempt to hold those people accountable. One comment read [7], "Don't go in the water. The fish is bad."

Despite the onslaught of criticism, Roz confidently clapped back and kept on defending her shoot because her opinion is the one that matters.
