Runner Fights Off Attacker in Seattle

Woman Faces Every Runner's Worst Fear and Fights Off Her Attacker

Four miles into her 10-mile run, 36-year-old Kelly Heron was brutally attacked in a Seattle public bathroom stall by 40-year-old Gary Steiner, a known sex offender. All she could think was "Not today, Motherf*cker" as she used the skills she learned in a recent self-defense course and did everything she could to fight back and get away. Her running route shown below on her Instagram page illustrates the fight for her life.

Kelly screamed and beat the side of his head, got away, and kept him locked in the bathroom until police arrived. Now she feels empowered, saying, "My face is stitched, my body is bruised, but my spirit is intact."

If you're ever attacked, experts say to be as loud as you can and to use your hard bones against their soft, fleshy places to fight back. If you've been thinking about signing up for that self-defense course, this could be the inspiration you need to finally go and do it, and get your running friends to join you. It could save your life.
