Running Poll: Have You Ever Run in a Race?

Have You Ever Run in a Race?

I've never been much of a competitive person, and running was always something I did for my health and to relieve stress. When I started running with a friend last summer, she suggested we sign up for this 5K fun run, to benefit the Humane Society. Since I'm an animal lover, and we were allowed to bring our dogs to the race, I went along with it. The race was actually really fun, and it inspired me to sign up for a triathlon this year.

So I was wondering . . .

I love to run. I ran in college on our cross country team! I am now training for a half marathon in may. I was going to do the full marathon but we are in the process of moving out of state and I broke my hand so I can't push the stroller so my chances to go running have been limited.

Yes and I definitely want to continue! I've ran in several 5Ks, 10Ks, and I'm currently training for my 2nd half-marathon.

I'm doing the from couch potato to 5k runner training plan. I'm only on day 3 so I have a long way to go, but I'm so excited!!! I signed up for a 5k at the end of April. I've been wanting to do this for the past couple of years and now I'm finally following through!

I've run x-country throughout H.S. and college so I have done a LOT of races. My last season was this past fall so my future goals are to do a sprint triathalon, run a 5k pr: under 19:50 and eventually run a marathon.

I just started running a few months ago, and I haven't done a race yet, but I'm pretty comfortable at 5K distance and would love to try a 10K. I almost entered the lottery for the Nike Women's Half but chickened out! Maybe next year.

Yup! And although my fav distance is the HM, I love the marathon. My best time is 3:53:13, and I'm hopeing to qualify for Boston soon. EVAmy: They usually start in the morning, but you can probably find one or two that start later. What time did yours start? I don't think a 7:00 or 8:00 start time is too early. If you have a really early morning race (I think Maui starts at 4:00 or 5:00 am? because of the heat), then try to get in some of your long runs at that time.

I did my first race last fall, marathon and I agree its more about pushing yourself to your absolute limit. I'd like to do it again, but I wish there was one that started later in the day. Running 26.2 miles is hard enough on the body, but waking up pre-dawn to do it is brutal. I'm still undecided about doing it again or not, is there such a thing as an afternoon or evening marathon anywhere?

I ran my first 5K last May with my best friend... and my 2nd in October with her all over again. This Sunday, she and I are doing the half-marathon in Atlanta, with our dual goal of completing the Las Vegas full marathon in December! Of course, there will be plenty other events mixed in there with it, but those are the 2 biggies!

I am running my first 5K in May for the Revlon Run/Walk thing in Los Angeles. I also signed up for the Nike Half Marathon in October (I find out on April 1st if I get in or not since the selection was random). Have to find a 10k race sometime in between May and August.

I am running in my first race, an 8K called the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago on Sunday. I am so excited. I ran 5 miles on Monday to see if I could finish the distance and I did so I am not worried about Sunday anymore. I have gotten over the "i hate running" hump and I crave it now!

ive only done two 5ks. it was more for the experience than the competition. kinda fun. it's neat to see so many people at once. $20, get a shirt. not too bad. my overall experience is "just okay" though.

i'm currently training to runa 5K in May! I've walked it the last 2 years, but this year I'm RUNNING! I can't wait, i'm really excited! I have a friend that was going to do it with me, but she's going to walk. So it'll just be me and running yay! I think one a year is all I can do as that's usually all the fundraising I can do haha.

I have done a 10K and would do it again, but have no one willing to go with me. I have thought about a triathlon, but looking at the distances I would have to do a junior one.

I did a 5K with some friends, but it wasn't exactly "racing" in that we wore the goofiest exercise clothes we could find and brought Bloody Mary's with us (I love New Orleans).

I am halfway through training for my second marathon. It is not about competition for me. The training is about working toward a goal and pushing my limits. The marathon day itself is a celebration of all my hard work along with thousands of other runners that value health and wellness as much as I do.

I have run in a race before, but I doubt I will do it again. Running is just not for me.

I signed up for a 10K Scramble yesterday. The terrain changes over rocks and through water.

There's a 5K military mud run in October that I'm training for. It's been my goal for 4 years to run this thing, and 2008 is my year! It's scary, but I have to do it.

i ran lots of races in high school track and i miss it! i have no where to run now, where i live is awful - no roads are really safe to run, definitely pedestrian unfriendly.
5k's are such a good goal for me at the beginning of the 'running season'- aka spring in New England. I did a sprint triathlon 3 years ago and I think the bf and I are going to try to do another one this year.

I never ran in my life until a couple of years ago, and I decided it would be my goal to run a 5k. And I did!! I felt great. :) I hope to do another one. I did a 5k run/walk last year but due to the logistics of participating w/ friends I just walked it.
