Speak Up: What Do You Do For "Winter Blahs"?

Speak Up: What Do You Do For "Winter Blahs"?

Winter is coming to an end, slowly, but these last days of the season can sure drag on. Many of us get totally bummed during the final days of Winter because we just want some sun and warmth already! In order to combat the "Winter blahs," I make sure I get enough exercise each week (big shocker there). Keeping up with my physical health helps me keep on top of my emotional health. What do you do to combat the Winter blahs? Speak up and share your ideas below.

(Besides, there's only so much exercise a girl can do so I could use a few pointers myself.)

Lately I've been stepping outside for a few minutes at work and absorbing a bit of sunshine. Even though its still cold..getting a bit of sun directly on my face makes me feel great!! We all need the sun...maybe not to get tan, but just to brighten our moods. I've even stopped wearing sun glasses all the time so that i can get that sunshine even more. This really helps my blahs!! This and of course getting a good workout in too!! :D

I'm in the uk and last night/this morning it was minus 8 degrees c and it's probably only a couple of degrees outside now. We've been in 'winter' since around November time and will probably still have another month or two of rubbish weather before we get any heat! As well as exercising I relax. Sounds silly but I do little things. Last night I snoozed, watched tv, had a mug of tea and a little bit of high cocoa content chocolate. This past weekend I gave myself a pedicure. Tonight I have the gym so a no go (although have finances to sort when I get in). Basically, I keep busy. Time is going to pass anyway so may as well get things achieved!

One thing I really like to do when I know that winter is almost over is, besides exercising, prepping my body to be seen. Exfoliating, moisturizing, applying skin discoloration cremes. My skin is still covered up so it wont be exposed to the sun to let the creams work and do their job and by the time the spring comes I have clear smooth even toned and complected skin. Cause backne is not cute in any season.

To get my vitamin D fix I sit in front on our glass doors at the sunniest part of the day. I may not exactly be getting a tan, but the sun on my face makes me feel like it's the middle of the summer.

I've really been feeling the winter blues around here lately. I'm in grad school at Michigan, and in addition to the snow (which I can deal with), it's also incredibly cloudy. I haven't been working out as much as I should, but I bet that would help. My one surefire way of cheering up when it's nasty outside is watching Jane Austen movies. Strange, but true! They always make me feel better. I'm sure other people have similar go-to "comfort" films. It's also nice just to get out of the house and do something social.

Oouf...Im fedup of winter already...It doesnt help that its never sunny where I am too. So sick of heavy clothing to go outside. I agree that shopping for spring clothes helps...I need some vitamine D...

most of my winter activities tend to revolve around the fireplace. Curl up in front of it with a good book (or a good guy), or toast marshmallows (only if you've worked out that day, of course). I also like to get in the tub and turn on the jets and pretend I'm at some luxurious spa. A friend of mine uses the turkish abth at her gym (one more excuse to go!). Or you can always book a trip to jamaica. :)

i'm lucky enough to live in CA (palm springs area) so I don't get too much winter blues. But when it's chilly and blah outside, I try to just get out of the house. I always hit the gym and sometimes we even just go to the movies (bringin my own popcorn of course) Anything to get out and DO something!

exercising really helps. i also find that spending time outside, even when it is really cold, puts me in a better mood than just staying in all the time.

It's been so cold up in NY this winter and it seems to be dragging on. I hibernate through winter and don't come out to the social world until it's semi-warm. In order to get through the winter blues my boyfriend and I go to the gym together--it's the best way to get me out of the comforts of my warm apartment. Tanning used to be my go-to energy perk but I think the older I get the more I'm trying to take care of my skin for the future...so self tanners it is! There's really no solution to get through wintertime depression other than struggle through it and have your beach gear handy the SECOND it's warm outside....I feel your pain, my fellow wintertime blues sufferers! :)

I try to get outside more when it's sunny and around 40 degrees...feels warm after days of 10 degrees. I also go out and shop for spring clothes as it gets me excited about the warmer months ahead. I put on some self-tanner the other day, too, to give my white skin a little glow.

FYI, I went sent out for work, forgot that tidbit, so that trip came at a nice time!

Chicago has also been experiencing a brutal winter, and I was having my fair share of SAD these last few weeks. Exercise is critical, but sometimes so daunting when you have to battle snowstorms & the extra time driving in bad weather & digging out your car. However, I got sent out to NC last Friday & spent the weekend with my best friend. Those few days really helped -- went for a jog outside Saturday morning, we had lunch outside, and I barely had to wear a coat down there.

I live in SoCal, so not feeling those winter blues!! I don't know what i'd do if I lived in a cold place where it snows...hibernate like a bear most likely. And gain 20 lbs.

I try to do little things to cheer myself up, maybe shopping or something. I also try to get out on the "better" winter days, like when it's maybe close to 40 and not 14. I also try and get to the gym as much as possible.

I'm in Minnesota, and right now its a balmy 5 degrees, and tomorrow it's supposed to be a high of 3 degrees, with a low of -3 degrees. so it doesn't feel like the seasons almost over. i really dislike(that my attempt at not using the word "hate") running outside, mostly because of the cold, but also because its normally really dark when i get up to run, and its just awful. i've tried my best not to complain, but the blahs have hit me hard and i'm feeling incredibly unmotivated. i would really appreciate some advice!!

I bundle up and take walks outside if it's above zero out. It feels so good to get fresh air. I've also started shopping for spring clothes, it gives you a nice boost to get through the rest of winter.

I just added two dance/toning classes to my workout schedule and try to walk outside as often as the weather permits.

Luckily winter doesn't last that long in Louisiana, but I'm taking a vacay in March, and I try to get outside every day that it's nice enough to do so.
