The 6 Stretches For Anyone With Tight Hamstrings

Speak Up: What Forms of Exercise Have You Tried and Not Liked?

When it comes to exercising, I have a few go-to activities that I always end up doing. I mix it up between running, biking, swimming, as well as outdoorsy activities hiking and kayaking. I love yoga, Pilates, and weightlifting. I tried branching out and experimented with rock climbing, windsurfing, and horseback riding, but they were either too expensive or not for me. What about you? Are there certain types of exercise that you dabbled with that didn't stick?

I've never been able to get into spinning/biking. I just don't have the stamina for it, or something. Although, I do love the elliptical, as well as yoga, pilates, and weight-training. I wish I loved swimming for fitness, but I never seem to push myself hard enough- I love being in the water, just not working out in it.

I'm with everyone who said running, as it's so repetetive. My dad's a runner so he hates that I hate it, but never mind. I love tae bo and aerobics, but only at home with a dvd as I don't like the idea of gyms. I only go to swim :)

Spin class has been my least favorite, so far. But I've purchased proper booty-comforting garments, as I want to do a sprint triathalon next year, so I'd better get on the bike! Oh, and bikram yoga. I sweat enough as it is.

Yes. I tried krav maga and didn't really care for it. I'll be writing about the experience in more detail on my blog on Tuesday.

Dislikes: 1) Any team sports or things with a racket or club - I have no hand-eye co-ordination what-so-ever! 2) running - unless its stair-running 3) most outdoors stuff - I hate being in the sun unless I'm lounging by the pool/beach with gallons of sunscreen on. 4) Walking - unless its armed with a credit card. I just don't see the point and end up walking as fast as I possibly can. A good thing, but its mind-numbingly boring for me Likes: 1) Yoga, but only the dynamic types like Ashtanga 2) rock climbing - met my first boyfriend doing this! 3) gym workouts - hence the job working in a gym 4) swimming

Ugh, so many things! I'm glad to see there are several other people here who hate running, too. I always feel like a Philistine for not loving it.

The elliptical machine -- I know it sounds dumb but I've never been able to get the hang of it. I'll stick to the treadmill!

I dislike most forms of exercise - I can only tolerate the gym occasionally, and weight training gets exceedingly boring very quickly. I like walking, love swimming, adore stretching, but most of all I like exercise that engages my creativity and/or intellect as well as my muscles. (And I love a great soundtrack!) I'm a dancer at heart, I guess - I take flamenco classes three or four times a week, and I figure skate (though not on a competitive level anymore), and I do Middle Eastern dances with a friend. Running will never, ever appeal to me, and I'm not the biggest fan of outdoorsy things (hiking excepted).

I'm not good at fast-twitch stuff like team sports. So... I prefer running. :) I'm generally a nervous-impatient-type person, so again, running is the sport for me; it blasts off the stress & keeps that negative part of me to a minimum. *heh* Pushups REALLY suck, but damn, do they do the trick like nothing else! So I do those.

regular gym stuff gets very boring! i can't run for more than 30 minutes. i rarely run, maybe once a week... to measure my mile time. i get so tired the next day when i run, as opposed to my default elliptical! I think summer is the best time to try new sports. rock climbing is fun but really hard. WHITE WATER RIVER RAFTING is the BEST sport ever. It's so fun and exciting, and really works your arms. it's kind of pricey but SOOOOO WORTH IT!! i wanna try surfing this summer :)

I adore pilates, but couldn't get into yoga at all. I actually got really nauseous and it wasn't even bikram (in other words, the room wasn't hot)! It may have something to do with deep breathing. I used to struggle with that a lot, but I'm a much better breather now that I do pilates and have learned the correct weight lifting breathing technique. I guess I would consider trying yoga again now that I've done pilates for about a year. I also couldn't get into spinning. I can jog and use the cross trainer for hours, but for some reason I don't have the stamina to spin/bike. I have a friend who did a four hour marathon spin for charity, I gotta give her kudos cuz I'd NEVER be able to do that!

Yoga really hurts me, during some of the positions, I feel like I'm cutting off any air flowing through my body and I start panicking! I also tried spinning once and it left me w/a scar that I still have!!! I stopped pedaling but the pedal didn't stop and it ended up gashing the back of my calf! Blood was everywhere and the folks at the front of the gym couldn't do anything about it but give me a band aid!!

I love rock climbing (and swimming)! I totally hate running, however. My parents made me join the gymnastics team when I was little and that was awful.

Another climber chick here. But I loathe yoga. And pilates. They bore me to tears.

I took one yoga class and absolutely hated every minute of it. I'm not, and have never been, very flexible. All yoga was, was a painful reminder. I thought it would be a least somewhat relaxing. NOPE. People keep telling me to take another class and give it a second shot, but NO THANKS! Now, I don't mind a little basic yoga stretches after an aerobics class though.

I run, but not often because it hurts, I do exercise on the elliptical trainer at the gym and that's good for me. Love me some weight training and stretching and I've wanted to try yoga and pilates but I've just never done it because I'm not a class exercise person. I'd like to branch out and do other exercises but I enjoy going at my own pace and do what I want.

I tried running but just can't keep up with it. My lungs are just not conditioned enough. I absolutely love yoga but don't care for pilates, although I kinda got into the machines, but not the mat classes. Step aerobics ok, but not really into all the coordinated steps. Pass on that. The gym is ok, but get bored with all of that after awhile. I pretty much stick with brisk walking. Its the only thing I dont get bored with.

Running I don't like much. Other things I've tried I'm okay with.

I don't like kayaking, playing soccer, or doing the stairmaster at the gym--the worst form of torture!! I'd rather just run for hours.
