My brother is trying to persuade me to do a half marathon by next year. I figure that if he thinks I can do it, I can do it too.

I'm with annikarae. I have always had a terrible body image, mostly due to critique from a young age from my mother. A few years ago, I got really depressed and made a big change in my life. I lost 40 pounds and felt great! And I kept it off for two years, but this past year it has been creeping back on. I don't know how, probably because my 20 years of dieting has thrown my metabolism into constant sleep mode. Sure I probably didn't keep up AS healthy of a diet, but I work out a ton, so you'd think I'd at least maintain... Unfortunately, now I'm back where I started, and I have to do it all over. It just unfortunately a life style change. It stinks that in order to maintain a healthy weight I have to basically cut 90% of carbs, and eat 15 servings of veggies a day. Greatly reducing amounts of caloric intake. Oh well, such is life..

I know I'm happier when I exercise, I get mildly depressed if I don't run. I have a family history of diabetes and heart disease, and I'd rather not have either. A surf trip in August that I'd like to be strong enough for and not self conscious about spending the day in swimwear. I have a photo shoot for my bf's birthday in about a month that I want to look hot for because the camera doesn't lie.

I finished breast cancer treatment a few weeks ago (I'm 37) and want to feel strong and in control of my body again. And I want to do everything I can to make sure that I live to see my three-year-old son grow up.

My husband and I are adopting a child, and I am going to be a first-time mother. I don't want to have trouble keeping up with my child. I want to be fit and healthy so I can be the mother I want to be. She deserves nothing less than my best. I am a diabetic who joined Weight Watchers 7 weeks ago, and I have already lost 20 pounds. I really want to be healthy. I am excited at all I have to look forward to.

I just started a ballet class yesterday, and it's been a few years since I danced on a dance team. Ballet is a great workout, and the confidence I get from dancing is my motivation.

I am a horse trainer, and I need to be in good shape to keep up with the large stallions I'm riding. So, it's a rather functional approach, I guess.

In an attempt to maintain my sanity. Life and work are hard, and having an hour a day walking/running/biking outside in the gorgeous world is keeping me sane. That buffer between work and home has been really good decompression time. Also, it makes me feel good about myself, weight and physical benefits aside (as great as they are), I like to see myself as a fitness oriented person. I like that I've walked half marathons and run 5ks, and when I'm there I feel part of a community of people trying to be more than just themselves.

My motivation? I was passing along my street not too long ago, and there was group of guys who always sit in one spot, one of them shouted "oh you got fat!" my immidiate reaction would be to cry and run home, but it dawned on me.. I DID get fat. So there you have it, reality check in the outmost disgusting way possible. I want to feel comfortable in my own skin. I want to finally accomplish what I thought was impossible. I want the ultimate sweet revenge.

I like the way running makes me feel--light and quick, like if I could go just a little bit more, then I could fly.

My main motivation is sleep. I sleep a million times better when I run regularly. Like underyourwaves, running also keeps my allergies and sinus issues in check. I'm also training for a 1/2 marathon.

For me, it's partly to stay relatively stress-free when studying for the bar. Working out always helps my anxiety during stressful times, and just makes me feel good. I actually even like working out now! Also, on a slightly vainer note, I'm moving to a new city in about a month and would like to arrive looking good.

My main motivation is always being healthy, mind & body. I have other sources of more immediate motivation. I'm running another 5k in a couple weeks and I want to beat my best time. My husband and I just bought a boat and we're looking forward to getting out on the lake. I want to look hot and kick the boys tails at kneeboarding.
