T.G.I.F. – Now Clean Your Desk

It is Friday and we are all happy about that, for sure. Here's a simple suggestion to clear your mind for the weekend and leave work behind: tidy up your desk before you head home. Nothing puts a period at the end of a run-on sentence of a week like cleaning up your desk.

Take a little time right now to stack your papers into tidy piles. Organize them while you are at it, too. Clean around your keyboard with some compressed air. Put all your pens in a cup. Throw away any little bits of refuse and wipe down your desk —experts claim that around 10 million bacteria make their home on your desk. Not all of those bacteria are dangerous, but if you eat at your desk things could become especially nasty.

I truly believe leaving a tidy desk behind me at the office gives me peace of mind over the weekend. I'm going to start stacking my papers right now. How about you?

I do this every Friday! I shelve and reorganize my books (I'm a librarian so books pile up in my office pretty quickly), wipe down my desk and keyboard with a Lysol wipe, and go through any papers that have piled up during the week. It definitely makes me feel better.

I'm disorganized when I am a stressed in life. A clean work space helps me keep less stressed. It is a vicious cycle.

Cotedazur...that's cause people clean their toilets a lot more frequently than their desks :) I work with microbes as I wipe down my desk on a pretty regular basis. It's pretty messy, but at least it's sanitized! Only exception is my lab desk. It's spotless ;)

I came home and saw the wreck that was my apartment. So, after having to shamefully allow two classmates to see my studio (they were quickly visiting), I started frantically cleaning up my desk and room. It looks FABULOUS, now! :-D

I read once that it is more hygienic to eat your lunch off a toilet seat than the average American desk, based on bacterial counts... probably good news for Clorox.

I always have a neat desk...clutter makes me nuts and I couldn't work like that. I always put things away and lock up my files/paperwork before I leave for the day too.

I'm a neat freak so it never gets too bad. I wipe my desk down with disinfectant first thing Monday morning so I can start the week clean.

I like a nice clean desk, too. Fortunately, mine doesn't usually get TOO messy, but I like to spray it down with disinfectant spray every day or so (hey, I work with live microbes...gotta keep the area clean). One more thing: don't eat food at your desk if you can help's like eating off the floor. Gross :P

I concur bigtime. I'm not a fan of the canned air though, it just spreads all the dust bunnies to another part of your desk. If you do the canned air, you should follow up with wipe down with one of those anti-bacterial wipes. The kind Clorox makes.

Good Idea I will do it right now before I leave. I am kind of clean freak anyways so it won't take me long. THanks for sharing about the bacteria I mean I knows it bad but the thought that i eat there sometimes really put it into perspective!
