Tell Us What Running Does For You

Speak Up: What Does Running Do For You?

The New York Marathon is fast approaching, and I'm excited for Shalane Flanagan's debut at the distance. Running shoe giant Asics is one of the renowned race's sponsors and I am liking the sneaker company's new ad promoting the race.

We all know that no matter the distance, no matter the setting, running releases more than just sweat. When I'm pounding the pavement, I sometimes feel like the runner in this ad. I can almost see my negative thoughts, bad mood, and stress leaving my body. Does that happen to you? What does running do for you? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Running helps to clear my head. I try really hard not to think about work! It definitely is a stress reliever for me; if it's been a couple days since I've last run, I am restless and sometimes a little cranky. Since starting to run more, I care less about losing or maintaining weight because I'm so proud of what my body is capable of doing, especially while training for and after running my first half marathon. I have trained for 2 half marathons by myself and take pride in knowing that I made those half marathons happen all by myself.

I miss running as much as I used to. Right now I'm only running a couple of miles a week supplemented with the elliptical because of my ankle tendonitis. But what I do love about it is that it clears my mind and gets my aggression out. I always feel so fantastic after I get back from a great run.

Running makes me feel accomplished and strong. There's a sense of freedom that comes with running. I love the idea of being able to outrun zombies, too.

Right now this post makes me really depressed. Things have become very busy and involved with work and family and I'm only able to run 2-3 times a week.. I've definitely seen a shift in what I'm able to do. It's so frustrating to feel like you're out of shape or a slower pace is harder than normal. So sad. I miss the free flowing form/breath and the excitement of the last five minutes in the hour run. :( :( :(

Its different every run, sometimes I feel strong and confident. Other times I'm just trying to endure the pain and keep focused. But after every run, I feel really satisfied and relaxed.

I love running because it makes me feel strong, and the fact that I am the sole reason for being able to run mile after mile. I also love it because I can eat dessert almost guilt free =) and it keeps my weight in check.
Running relieves stress because I can just zone out while I do it and that boost of endorphins really hits the spot. Running also boosts my self confidence and body confidence because I feel so accomplished and proud of my self and body, especially after completing a really intense run.

It depends...sometimes it makes me lose toenails, sometimes it helps me get rid of stress, sometimes it makes me talk to myself to get through that last mile (I'm that crazy girl, I guess). It just depends on the day.
