Ten Ways to Burn 200 Calories

Ten Ways to Burn 200 Calories

Sure, a slice of Domino's cheese pizza may taste pretty good, but do you know what it takes to burn off those 200 calories? At the very least, you're looking at 20 serious minutes of jump rope. And, maybe it's worth it to you, maybe it's not . . . you be the judge.

For a simple chart of how long it takes the average 130 pound person to burn 200 calories, just

Activity Duration
Backpacking 30 Minutes
Walking (3-4 mph) 60 Minutes
Boxing (punching bag) 20 Minutes
Hiking 35 Minutes
Jogging on Treadmill 30 Minutes
Swimming (vigorous) 20 Minutes
Dance Aerobics 35 Minutes
Jumping Rope 20 Minutes
Stationary Bike 40 Minutes
Circuit Training 25 Minutes

And it doesn't end here. Your options are endless for burning calories, you've just got to get moving.

How about grabbing some hand weights and do some vigorous lifting for 30 minutes? I checked to calculate. Based on my weight (145) if I lift weights- bicep curls, triceps, etc. for 30 minutes I'd burn 148 calories. But...don't you continue to burn more calories throughout the day if you have more body weight? A quickie weight routine is great if you can't get out of the house or have a cold!

I always use the bike, both stationary and on trail, but I'm wondering: how fast do I need to go on the bike? 10 mph?

I've been using a heartrate monitor and it's helped me A LOT! I realized that most of the machines at the gym WAY overestimate my calories burned (even when I put my info in) and I burn more then they say I should when I go outside and run. I think it's helped me to be more precise in my calorie counting. As for me, I've been loving the jogging and yoga. Also I do this super cheasy kathy smith workout video. I'm horribly coordinated so it's extra hard for me hahahaha

pilates is my new favorite thing and I don't have to leave the house! also, carmen electra's aerobic workout is pretty good because you get to tone up legs, arms, etc.

me too, ashcwebb! i love friday night workouts, the gym is always nice & quiet, and no wait for machines. i don't feel like i have to rush home to get my butt in gear for work the next day. though i am in the routine of going to a 9 am NIA class on saturdays, so i still end up waking up at 7:30 or so, but somehow waking up for an exercise class brings about a good feeling instead of just heading to work.
