Veggie Burger Breakdown

If you're watching your saturated fat and cholesterol intake, veggie burgers are a great option when grilling. According to my burger poll, many of you actually prefer them. There are so many different brands and flavors out there now, the selection can be a little overwhelming. Some burgers are made with soy and others with grains. Other veggie burgers are just that and made from veggies. Sunshine even makes gluten-free burgers with sunflower seeds. Depending on the main ingredients, your options will differ in calories, sodium, carbs, and protein, so check out this breakdown to see which one you might want to grill up at your next BBQ.

I'm bummed about how much sodium is in all of these. I am just now trying to keep track of sodium, and MAN do manufacturers really over salt their stuff.

So which one of this are considered too high in sodium? What's too much?

sunshine brand are the only ones i buy-- because they're the only ones i've found that are SOY FREE! processed soy is not good for you.

I've tried the Dr. Praeger's and I don't understand the hype. They're mushy, fall apart instantly when you cook them, and have no flavor! I do like the bits of veggies in them though. Also, don't Boca burgers have 100 calories?

I used to buy the Boca Grilled Veggie burgers all the time. Then I moved and now I can't find them anymore and I have to settle for the Original Boca burgers.

phew - here i was thinking that i was going to be really upset and i read what you have in the chart and i can let out a sigh of relief. my mom just bought me a huge case of original boca burgers from Costco and it's nice to know that they aren't the highest in fat or cals or things like that :)

I was going to comment on Dr. Praeger's California burgers also. They take a while to cook, but it's worth it.

Agree with many of those who commented, Dr. Praeger's veggie burgers are the best I've had. They're nourishing, tasty and they actually pretty versatile for use not just as a veggie patty. It's also well worth it to make your own veggie burgers which can, most of the time, taste better than anything pre-packaged and available at Trader Joes or Whole Foods.

The morningstar farm chicken patties are my favorite. I cut them up and put them in salads.

I've been buying the Gardenburger Garden Vegan burgers, but I've had Sunshine burgers are few times and those are pretty good too. Thanks for the breakdown!

Totally feeling the Spicy black bean burger from Morning Star. Top w/ sour cream, corn salsa, and have solo or with the new "thin" bread slices...and add chile lime chips and you are set! At home, I'll add my "diet" margarita (minus sugary mix--freah lime juice) to relax after a hard days work!

Shiningeyes, I have had that and it's great! I don't put it on a bun, just eat it with a fork on a plate.
