Weekend Well-Being: Spring Clean Green

I know that Spring doesn't officially begin for a couple of weeks, but when the clocks spring forward I am ready to clean! Scrubbing counters and bathtubs not only ushers in the new season, it is a workout especially if you put some elbow grease into it. I like to avoid cleaners with harsh chemicals since they are not great for the lungs. I have been using this homemade all purpose scrub from Body + Soul for years and it works wonders on my sinks and tub!

Ingredients:
½ cup baking soda
Plant-based liquid soap (like Castille soap)
½ lemon

To see what you do, just

.

Directions:

  1. Pour baking soda into a bowl.
  2. Add just enough liquid soap to make a creamy paste.
  3. Spread mixture on the flat side of your lemon half and scrub to your heart's content. The lemon acts as a sponge and leaves a natural citrus scent too.
  4. Use a damp rag or sponge to wipe away any residue. You'll find the paste will stay moist for a few hours allowing you to scrub for hours if you want!

I like to use Dr. Bronner's liquid soap! The peppermint soap is great and leaves your house smelling quite fresh. For more green cleaning ideas check Casa's recipes for clean.

I've done the baking soda and lemon thing to scrub my sinks before, but I've never combined the baking soda with Castille soap. I bet that works great! I'll have to try it.
