3/5. I'd never heard of the Swedish word and I didn't know it worked the anaerobic system. That is awesome. I love intervals. How often is it okay to do them?

The benefits of interval training are grossly overstated! I read one article that said you burn 9 times more fat than steady state cardio. I guffawed at that one! Tom Venuto, among others, has debunked that myth. On the flip side of the coin, a person does NOT have to work out for an hour to achieve maximal benefit. Fifteen to twenty minutes of HIIT will definitely do a body good, however a 35 to 45 minute workout at 85-90% maximal heartrate will surpass the effects of HIIT anyday (metabolism, calorie expenditure, etc.). Different strokes for different folks. Where most people go wrong IMHO is that they assume steady state is a leisurly walk in the park. It has to be done vigorously to derive maximum benefit. PUSH YOURSELF! Get out of your comfort zone!

intervals are great and the metabolic benefits last all day. i'd rather spend 15 or 20 minutes doing crazy hard intervals than running at a medium pace for an hour.

I did 5/5. I enjoy interval training. It is one of the most effective workouts for me. In fact, my sister in law is convinced that I have to workout for over an hour. My answer-40 minutes of interval and that's it.

Aw, thanks Fit. You're the best. That's why you're the only Sugar I read religiously. (Plus if I read YumSugar i'd undo all the good FitSugar work.)

I should really do some interval running tonight. I really, really should... I'm gonna try to start getting myself psyched up for it all day.

I got a 3/5, but I learned a lot more about interval training! I usually do interval training, but I didn't realize it.

The question about interval training burning more calories than steady paced work is impossible to answer. intervals between 2 mph and 6 mph on the treadmill would not burn more than the same amount of time spent at 7 mph on the treadmill. the answer presupposes that steady-rate work will be slower than the intervals, but that's not outlined in the question. boo! i got 4/5 but i contend there's a trick question!
