Which Are You When It Comes to Health and Happiness?

A recent study claims that about 49 percent of Americans are thriving, 47 percent are struggling to stay happy and healthy, while about four percent are suffering. Maybe it's the optimist in me but I would have thought that more people would be thriving. Me, I like to think I'm thriving, though I definitely have my days of struggle. What about you guys — Which are you?

I REALLY need to just get a full physical/blood work and go get a complete dental check up...after all that, I will be 100% happier.

I'm doing good healthy wise, but happy wise I can get myself down. I actively have to work to keep happy.

I'm with you, Fit...I'm thriving, but I do have some "off" days.

I'm sort of struggling on the "happy" part right now because I'm not as busy as I'd like to be. I am thriving in the "health" part though. I think attitude is a big part of it...I try to think positively about my situation, but sometimes it really is difficult to pull yourself out of a rut.

Thriving. I agree -- I believe it all starts with attitude, and in turn, everything will fall into place. Truthfully, I don't find it difficult to have a positive attitude. I just have to be aware and mindful of remaining positive. It's just too easy to be negative. It's an easy trap to fall into. So to remain postive, I'm vigilant about it, but it's not hard. Just have to be mindful.

I just got crutches--my first set in all my 25 years--for a strained ankle today. But overall I feel happy. At least I listened to my body and had it checked out before it got any worse, and it should heal within 5 days. So because I'm happy and it shouldn't take too long to recover from, I went for "Thriving" :-)

I'm doin' alright. Some days I'm thriving, other days I'm trying. I can't complain too much.

I think I'm generally doing all right. I slip up, on occasion, but that's ok. Just shows I'm human =)

I think your wording, fitsugar, was key. . . you stated, "I like to think I'm thriving". . . I think attitude is 90%. I too like to think I'm thriving, but I have to work at hard at it. Very hard!

I'm thriving in both. It's taken alot of work on my part to get to this point. After suffering from depression for years and finally getting the upper hand on that. Then I worked with a life coach for a while to help, and now I'm working on the physical part. I've been very lucky to have been in very good physical health all my life - no major ailments or injuries etc. so now I'm working on keeping it that way. I'm taking better care of myself now that I'm 40 than I ever did before.

I could be happier, and I could be healthier, but I'm not doing horribly. I definitely don't take as good care of myself as I should, and that's one of my new goals. And being happier is also a goal, too!

I'm definitely not where I want to be health wise, but I go to the gym and strive for it.
