Meet the Brother-Sister Olympic Skiing Duo Going For Gold in South Korea

Say hello to the cross country Olympians who just happen to be siblings, Sadie and Erik Bjornsen. Training 700-1,000 hours each year, this dynamic duo is ready to take on the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Here are seven things you need to know about Sadie and Erik Bjornsen before they hit the world stage at the end of this month.

Sadie and Erik Bjornsen are siblings and have been training together since May to prepare for the Olympic Games in hopes of making Team USA together — which they both did.

Holding a dual degree in accounting and nonprofit business management from Alaska Pacific University, where Erik was also a student, this scholarly athlete is now working on her master's degree in business.

Sadie told NBC Olympics, "It begins at least 10 years before you arrive at the games. With such an endurance-based sport, the amount of training that goes into it begins so much longer before the actual year of the Olympics."

After an adverse reaction to an antibiotic called Levaquin, Sadie now suffers from severe tendinitis. To train, she told NBC Olympics she uses "mountain skipping" (skipping through the woods) to help with the pain from her tendinitis. She even sometimes runs into black and brown bears on the trail!

The Bjornsen duo spends nearly five months away from home each season. Leaving in early November and returning home in April.

Inspired by her fifth grade email account, Sadue told NBC Olympics that the nickname Sadzarue has stuck with her into adulthood.
