Get Fit For 2010: Challenge 10, Share Your Healthy Snack

Healthy snacks are important for gals on the go, no matter if your healthy goal for 2010 is to lose weight or run a marathon.

This week's challenge: write a blog post in the Get Fit group sharing the details of your fave healthy snack. Be sure to add a photo of your food to your post too. By meeting this challenge, not only will you be planning ahead, which is essential for healthy snacking, but you will be entered to win our weekly prize — a $100 Nike gift card.

Sharing your snack in the community group also enters you to win our fabulous grand prize: a $1,000 gift card from Nike; a year of personalized nutrition plans by nutritionist Alexa Fishback, plus a copy of her book; a year membership to 24 Hour Fitness for you and a friend; and two Bodybuggs. My new snack is Kashi Heart to Heart Roasted Garlic crackers with Pace Salsa Verde. SO GOOD. Usually, I snack on almonds, walnuts, or pecans. Or if I'm craving something sweet, I'll eat a banana topped with natural peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips.

i put 2 or 3 pieces of fruit in the mesh side pockets of my backpack. In my classes, people snack on pop tarts and doritos, and i'm there whipping out my apple or clementine. cheerios in a ziplock are another awesome snack: super portable and they take an awful lot of time to eat them all (since you're not eating them with a spoon).

1 carefully measured serving of almost any "healthy" snack. Pistachios, Better 'n Peanut Butter, lite yogurt, high fiber crackers or any 100 calorie snack pack.

Take sugar free jell-o cheesecake pudding, blend with skim milk,ice, and blueberries for an awesome smoothie snack.

my absolute favorite snack is 1 cup of cottage cheese with 1/2 cup of fiber one original and a mini box of raisins all mixed together with a generous dash of cinnamon and a drop of vanilla extract.... so so good....

Wow, I know of many great treats (some are sweet). Ok...I like ff cottage cheese w/ff, sf yogurt (maybe add some sliced fruit) I even like the cottage cheese with sf applesauce. Roast beef & lf cheese roll w/some spicy mustard. Try homemade turkey or chicken salad on leaf or head lettuce (like a taco). Now for something sweet (and satisfying)...try a sf/ff snackpak chocolate pudding, mixed with a couple big spoons of sf cool whip and a strawberry sf snackpak jello-you can even add a big sliced strawberry with it (it's all around 100 calories)- Mix and enjoy! Also I like cinnamon graham crackers dipped in choco or vanilla sf/ff pudding. You can even add a small bit of chopped banana to the vanilla for a banana pudding dessert. Cocoa roast almonds are really, really good too.

I throw dried cranberries, cinnamon and unsalted almonds in a bag, shake it up and go. Sometimes I'll put that on yogurt for breakfast. My husband and I keep bags of the stuff in the fridge so we don't have to think about snacks. Added bonus for those of you who get lots of bladder infections: eating cranberries keeps them at bay!
I love frozen sliced bananas as a sweet snack. It's so good.

To satisfy my sweet tooth, I blend together the following: 1/3 cup plain All-Natural Dannon yogurt, 1/2 small banana, 2 strawberries, 1 tsp unsweetened Hershey cocoa, 2 packets of stevia and a handful of ice. So yummy during the upcoming summer months & only about 130 cals!

i make a simple mix of unsalted raw almonds (15), a spoonful of raisins (Trader Joe's Seedless Thomson Raisins...i don't want all the sugar), and two dried apricots (no sugar added, also from Trader Joe's). it's a great mix of healthy fat, protein, carbs, and nutrients, and the raisins give a little energy boost! Portions are small because dried fruit, by volume, is much more caloric than fresh. Definitely helps me eat a variety of colors though!

I love pumpkin pie, especially cold pumpkin pie. As a snack I take a can of pure pumpkin and mix in splenda, cinnamon and top with spray butter and VOILA! Pseudo pumpkin pie filling! It's sooooo tastey!
