Are You "Regular"?

Are You "Regular"?

There are many health topics that aren't exactly considered "polite" conversation — things like spitting and sweating. One subject, not often discussed but a health indicator nonetheless, is regularity. If there is enough fiber in your diet, this might be a non-issue for you, but if your digestive health is at all funky this is something you pay attention to. With IBS and abdominal bloating, being popular topics here at FitSugar, I thought I would just cut to the chase and ask a basic question . . .

i'd recommend hydro therapy.. a colonic i hear it is good when you go to at least 3 sessions. fiber won't help if you are already impacted with waste, rather fiber helps maintain the pipes clean.

I think coffee helps me a lot. When I stop drinking my one cup in the morning it takes about a week for me to visit the bathroom daily again...probably not good this dependence.

my eating disorder messes up my regularity in a HUGE way....as in I can go a week without going. Then I end up having to take laxatives to help :(

ahh, I think im as irregular as it gets. and thats ever since I was a baby *shrug* when I was a kid, the doctor made my parents put me on some kind of diet, and it didnt change anything. and well now I live on my own, I eat healthy, drink pleeenty of water.. and nothing has changed. but im strong and healthy, so I don't bother anymore.

i usually go once every two/three days. I eat tons of fiber and drink lots of water. I just went to the doc though, they are testing me for celiac disease. My mom and gma both have it, and regardless of what people think you can be constipated and have celiac, it's not only the other way around. :)

annebreal, I think she didn't want to go in the pool because she felt bloated from being constipated.

the whole wait an hour thing isn't true may :) an old wives tale that keeps all us full gals out of the pool.

Hmm, they say wait 1 hr before swimming for a reason, now don't they? Whenever I swim, I notice its so natural to have that "urge" for the most part, you are using the major abs, sphincter muscles for kicking, and staying afloat. I find it is the best form of physical exercise and total body work out because its easy on the joints and you get a good session in.

I just went 6 days without going and i thought i was going to die...i am on an bunch of muscle relaxants and narcotic pain meds so I know that's whats wrongs...but even after 4 doses of ex-lax there was no hope... I take a probiotic to keep things in check...i feel like there is prolly a civil war going on in there! LOL

I'm very regular, but if I don't drink enough water, I get kind of bloated from all the fiber in my diet. It's amazing how eating fiber helps keep things "moving" down there. It's also really important that you eat fiber because it promotes the growth of healthy bacterial flora in your system, which prevent other bacteria from moving in and making you sick.

Yes, most of the time, unless I eat something weird. Personally, I think being regular is important. It's healthy, and it helps flatten the belly. When I'm irregular, I don't feel well, and I have a bloated lower tummy.

I eat a mostly vegan diet, so yes, I'm incredibly regular.

I work as a carer. I feel like all I do is deal with poop. ;p I seem to talk about it a lot... I have decided that as soon as I am double incontinent, life won't be worth living. So there. Anyway... I have IBS. I am INCREDIBLY regular. ;p I heard you are supposed to go like 3 times a day to be healthy and have healthy bowels? Sorted~ Yey poop.

The Missus, I seem to remember reading previously on here somewhere that regular is as often as three times a day to once every few days. And I went for most of the time, but the reason for me isn't stress, but hormones. It depends on what time of the month it is... It's annoying...

What's "regular?" My guess is it is different for everyone... I know I don't go as often as most other people.

I don't really pay attention to it, unless it's causing me problems. And usually the problem will be too MUCH fiber, and I'm running to the lady's room too much. What exactly is the meaning of regular? And yeah, like annebreal said, why can't you go swimming? Those are such odd commercials, and I don't think people can relate to them.

Ugh, it irritates me how irregular I am (and I eat quite a bit of fiber). I wonder if my lack of adequate water intake is the problem.

My bf commented on how "regular" he is now that he lives with me! That's what happens when you go from double cheeseburgers at Wendy's for dinner to healthy homemade dishes packed with fiber & unprocessed ingredients!
