This NordicTrack Reformer Brings the Pilates Studio to Your Home — Here's My Review

Oct 2 2026 - 10:48am

When I manifest my dream house, usually I think about endless closet space or a perfectly-cozy-yet-roomy kitchen. But recently, I've found myself thinking about the perfect at-home gym. I don't love to be in crowded areas when I'm working out, nor do I love the threat of a cancelation fee hanging over my head as a form of twisted motivation. So if I had the time, money, and resources to build a space in my home that optimized movement, it really would be a dream come true.

As someone who prioritizes low-impact exercise, the first order of business would be ordering a Pilates reformer. I'm addicted to the blissful feeling of hip openers or a few minutes of my feet in straps. Earlier this fall, I had the opportunity to test out one of the latest innovations in at-home Pilates equipment, the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reformer [1] ($5,000).

The design is very slim and made to complement a minimalist aesthetic, complete with sleek long lines, neutral colors, and muted lighting. At the front of the machine is a 24-inch HD touchscreen, which is home to a library of Pilates workouts brought to you by iFit. During my trial, I was able to follow a 30-minute intermediate full-body workout and put all the features to the test. Ahead, read my honest thoughts about whether the Ultra 1 would make the cut in my dream gym.

About the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reformer

What I Like About the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reformer

Overall, I really loved using the Ultra 1 reformer. I'd classify myself as having beginner-to-intermediate experience with Pilates reformers, and it felt very instinctual to follow along with one of the iFit workouts. The carriage slides so smoothly that it feels like you're floating (and it barely makes a sound to operate). I was worried about there only being three resistance levels rather than the four to five that you typically find in a group class, but it was very easy to adjust the nobs and find the right level. I love how the slim design makes it easy to fit in smaller spaces. That being said, it was definitely an adjustment to get used to moving around on a smaller carriage. But by the end of my workout, I felt more confident navigating the design.

While my tiny NYC apartment doesn't have space for a dining table, let alone a reformer, I could easily see myself adding the Ultra 1 to my wish list in my dream home. The convenience of being able to jump on for a deep stretch every morning or squeeze in a quick workout between meetings is priceless.

Who Is the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reformer Best For?

This machine is best for anyone looking to upgrade their at-home gym and prioritize a Pilates form of exercise. Whether you're focusing on just stretching or building strength, the machine has all the parts of a traditional reformer that a Pilates fan knows and loves. You can even opt for various attachments including a jump board, box, or extra head support to level up your machine. If you are someone who is obsessed with megaformers, this machine might not be best as the design is very slim.

Overall, between the sleek equipment and the iFit virtual instruction, the Ultra 1 is really like bringing a Pilates studio into your home. While this is undoubtedly an investment piece, if you're someone who spends hundreds of dollars a month on group classes or subscriptions, it might end up being more cost effective.

Where Is the NordicTrack Ultra 1 Reformer Available?
