Exercise is something we get to do (it's a privilege), but finding the motivation to work out can be difficult at times. Peloton instructor Tunde Oyeneyin [3] shared wisdom recently about how to change your perspective on exercise based on similar advice she offered during a Bike Bootcamp class [4]: don't give your resistance to, or dislike of, workouts the power to loom over you. Let her explain.

In the Instagram video above, Oyeneyin begins with a metaphor, saying that she hates — dreads, really — unloading the dishwasher. She'll find a slew of other things to do instead. But she soon realized, after listening to a friend of hers, that she could simply put on one three-minute song while unloading the dishes and the job would be done. "I allowed something, an activity that takes fewer than three minutes and 23 seconds, to loom over me for 24 hours," she states.

In that same vein, Oyeneyin says, "Your workout takes you 20, 30, 45 minutes. Don't allow the thought of your workout to loom over you." Do not let it be like unloading the dishwasher. Bottom line? Guilt has no place here — we want you to throw it out the window — and you should try to opt for workouts that you find fun. But, in the event that you are dreading your own sweat season, sometimes you just need to start. Showing up on your Peloton hardware or workout mat is, Oyeneyin notes, simpler than permitting that fear of getting started to burden you. As she says, "Put some music on [5], and do it!"
