Rest When You Need It
Rest days are just as crucial to your running program as running days. Running puts a lot of strain on the body, and honoring your body’s need to rest will allow you to hit the road on your training days feeling fresh. The more time you spend running, the better you will become at listening to your body telling you it needs a rest day. At the beginning, though, try not to run on consecutive days, leaving at least one day between each run as either a rest day or a cross-training day.
