Bebe Rexha on How Anxiety Affects Her Music, Body Positivity, and Her Diet and Fitness Routine

Bebe Rexha is no stranger to telling it like it is, no matter how good or bad. In the past, she's opened up about having bipolar disorder and why she's no longer ashamed of it. And let's not forget how she called out designers who refused to dress her because of her curves.

Bebe isn't afraid to keep it real, and that's one of her most appealing traits. As the Health June cover star, Bebe opened up about her music, mental health, nutrition, and workout routine. Here's what she wants you to know.

Why Bebe Isn't Afraid to Talk About Her Mental Health

When it comes to her mental health, Bebe doesn't shy away from speaking about what's she going through. In fact, she often uses her music as a medium to express what she's going through.

You may be familiar with her single "I'm Gonna Show You Crazy," and Bebe explained that it almost didn't get released by former executives at her record label due to a lyric about suicide.

To prevent this from happening, Bebe released the song on her own, "and it exploded," she told Health. "I've gone through so much stuff with my mental health. That's something that's a really big part of who I am," she said.

Bebe's also spoken openly about her body image, stating, "Ever since I was little, I've been thicker." She's dealt with brands not dressing her because of her shape, and her managers even suggested she get in "bootcamp shape" and lose 20 pounds when she first got signed. "It kind of messed me up," Bebe admitted, which led her to experience moments of "not really liking myself."

Although she still has those moments, Bebe explained that she tries to be nice to herself every day. She also said she walks around her house in her bra and underwear. "My therapist told me, 'You should walk around naked; it helps.'"

Forget keto and low-carb diets. Bebe doesn't believe in depriving herself. "I just don't think that's fun," she said. Although she doesn't restrict herself, she said at times she does eat "very clean."

Her "ultimate lunch" is a salad with chicken, no croutons, and a side of sweet potato fries. She's all about the balance, stating, "Pizza's not bad if you have one slice with a healthy salad on the side!" This is our type of nutrition plan.

"I deal with my anxiety by working out," she told Health. A few of the workouts she does with celebrity trainer Jeanette Jenkins are yoga, Pilates, running (her favorite), and taking cycling and boxing classes. She likes these workouts because "I can get out my aggression or anything I'm feeling I just want to get rid of."
