This Emotional Video Will Get You Hyped Up For the Tokyo Olympics in Exactly 1 Year

July 23, 2021. That's the new start date for the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympics. That's one year until we can see Caroline Marks and Carissa Moore make their Olympic surfing debut, one year until we can see Sakura Kokumai do her thing in karate, one year until we can witness — if all goes according to plan — Simone Biles make more history in the sport of gymnastics.

To mark one year until the opening ceremony in Tokyo, the International Olympic Committee and Olympic Channel put out a video to express what athletes have been feeling through the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic having to navigate a shift in training and a new normal in the US and around the world. It also encapsulates what the general public has gone through during this time. Watch it in full above.

In the video, you'll see Olympic athletes from different Games in history. You'll catch a glimpse of Japanese swimmer Ikee Rikako holding a lit lantern as a symbol of hope moving forward. This is footage from the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee's event at an empty National Stadium to mark the eve of what would have been the opening ceremony this summer.
