2007's Favorite Male-Celebrity Chef Is . . .

2007's Favorite Male-Celebrity Chef Is . . .

This morning, as part of our Best of 2007 coverage, we revealed our favorite female-celeb chef of 2007. Well, now it's time to reveal our favorite male-celebrity chef. The readers' choice mimicked my own and it was a close race between Alton Brown and Anthony Bourdain; in fact, they're currently tied at 23 percent each. However in the end, I'm going to have go against my heart and go with my brain. Our choice for male-celebrity chef of the year is Gordon Ramsay.

This year Ramsay really dominated his category. He had two successful US television shows — Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares — several interesting shows on BBC, a video game in the works, two more Michelin stars, a new cookbook, and he found time to run a marathon. Not to mention he did all this even with burned bits down under.

Say what you will about Ramsay, but he is a successful — if not awfully busy — bloke and 2007 was really his year.

What I like about his shows is that he shows the business side of running a restaurant, not just the cooking. Which, as someone who's working in restaurants for many years, I find interesting. What the point of having a great chef if your menu is unappealing and your waitresses useless? There's many different aspect of the running a restaurant, and he looks at all of them. I do feel he plays up to the cameras a bit, but he used to be a Glaswegian footballer! I think the bad language is left over ;)

I believe we have a problem with real people these days. Gordon only speaks to how he feels and on Kitchen Nightmares most of those so-called chefs really need a good a** whipping. Gordon didn't get where is today by being nicey-nicey to undeserving people. YOU GO GORDON!

Go Gord!! you rock man
So intimidating. Could never work under him, I'd screw up all the time because he would make me nervous.

You know, I don't watch any of Chef Ramsey's shows because the previews are already more than I can take. Why do people want to watch this a-hole pi$$ and moan each and every episode? What a jerk. He may be a great chef, I have no clue, but who cares. You don't have to be a jerk. That's the old food-snob mentality and it's just so out these days. Look at Mario Batali and Bobby Flay. They're great chefs (I go to Bobby's Mesa Grill EVERY CHANCE I GET) and they're both extremely nice. People aren't out to watch good chefs cook great food, they just want to see drama. Well then go turn on Jerry Springer. - Tara

Yay, I love Gordon Ramsay. He may not have the best personality, but you can tell he loves food and the fact that he has so many successful restaurants says a lot.

Ugh! Not him. There's a reason Alton and Anthony are both top contenders.

Boo! Yum, both Elton and Bourdain are wicked fun and smart. Ramsey is just obnoxious. It is not often I disagree with you, but I am going with the wisdom of the crowds.
