2009 Sugar Awards: Best Kitchen Store

The Year's Top Kitchen Store

In continuation of our Best of 2009 coverage, we asked you about your favorite kitchen store of the past 12 months. The vast majority of you — 58 percent — declared Cost Plus World Market tops, for its affordability during tough economic times.

Although we're also fans of the imported sundries sold at Cost Plus, we must respectfully beg to differ: for the second year in a row, we're naming Williams-Sonoma as 2009's best kitchen store. True, the California kitchenware company has partnered with us on some colossal giveaways this year. But more than that, it's been the source of many solid recipes, cocktail ideas, and, of course, covetable kitchen items. Tell us what you love about Williams-Sonoma, or your favorite kitchen store!

I guess featuring the losers of polls as the winners despite poll results is a sugar trend. Fab did it here http://www.fabsugar.com/6769580 Even though Lorraine Schwartz won the best bling of 09 poll, Fad decided to pronounce Dannijo the best jewelry designer of the year. :oy: Why have polls if you guys are all just going to ignore the results?

Yeah......I'd say if your readers voted for Cost Plus almost three times more than Williams-Sonoma....you're pandering to the advertisers more than conducting an actual survey.

Hilarious! Why put up a poll if you are just going to contradict the voters and praise the sponsor as the winner?

I will never spend a dime in williams sonoma again. We returned a cookbook there that my husband and daughter bought me the same one and the salesperson was very unhelpful and condescending, saying it "wasn't exactly a book for beginners". I'm not exactly a beginner cook, but thank you for assuming I am! Not to mention we found the same food processor that I wanted elsewhere for $50 less. I guess you pay extra for the condescension there!

wow! one more reason not to vote in these polls. between the twilight idiots winning every poll they're in to changing the results to please the sponsors. please.

o_O That is odd.

While I wasn't in the HUGE majority that opted for Cost Plus as my go-to cookware store, I can certainly see why people would be offended for taking the time to vote only to have those votes discounted.
