The Disgusting Reason Cheap Wine Makes You Feel So Bad

Mar 20 2015 - 4:00am

We have an all-new reason to be wary of drinking cheap wine [1]. A class action lawsuit filed in California claims 28 popular California winemakers [2] have up to five times the maximum amount of arsenic allowed in drinking water, as determined by the EPA [3], making these wines potentially poisonous. Winemakers such as Charles Shaw, Franzia, Ménage à Trois, Sutter Home, Wine Cube, Glen Ellen, Cupcake, Beringer, and Vendange have made the list for possibly violating state law and misleading consumers. Most of the varietals mentioned are white or blush, including Moscato, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon Blanc. Arsenic cannot be seen or tasted, but long-term exposure [4] can lead to cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
